Of course tastes are personal things, but I personally don't have the stomach for Brom. Safe for a handful of pictures I can count with the fingers of _one_ hand, I don't like his art.
As for Robh Ruppel, I don't know enough, but wasn't that the guy who was Art Director of John Milius' Conan? Or am I always mixing him up with someone else?
(...)The setting for the core books are campaign neutral. Forgotten Realms will be the first campaign setting to be updated (in August 2008). Other campaign settings will be updated at a rate of one per year.
One per year, OK. So given FR is 2008, and DL and Eb will be updated afterward, if even RL is fourth it means 2011.
I'll stick with 3.5 for a long time I guess.

I don't mind a new D&D edition per se, but I hope it won't be even more videogamesque. What's that obsession with speading the game? In a few editions, it will be a "OK, in the cave stands a menacing troll, and (one dice is rolled) zapp, the battle is finished."
Also, that tabletop-online symbiosis leaves me with many question marks.

If 4th edition is like the SAGA edition, I will look forward to it. The talents system allow for so much flexibility and the skill system, while simplified, help to not be bug down (i need to know if the guard detect him, not if he saw him or heard him...)
Personnally i ll try to keep an openmind with the new system. But I feel it s a little to soon, 2010 would have been better if only to let the people the time to integrate the news.
I have hope for 4th edition- but I'll have to see it first hand before I buy any of it. I think on one of the wizards 4th ed message boards they were showing a char gen screenshot that had under the campaign section the typical FR, Ebberon, someother settign and 4th of all Ravenloft.
IF wizards does do a RL book- I kinda expect them to muck it up totally. Basically I consider whatever the Frat does as canon.
okay, first off Ravenloft will likely come out before some of the others. Just look at the signs, the reprints, the new fiction, the largest underground fan base. Remember in Dragon? That one issue about old worlds with Strahd on the cover? Remember Heros of Horror and EtCR? I'm not saying get your hopes up or anthing but we have a hell of a lot more going for us then Greyhawk. At least with the new fiction our setting is getting TRULY advanced.
Heres a sad story though if you can read between my lines.
I once knew a man named, oh lets say his name is Matric. And Matric around a year ago began submitting his write ups and adventure plots to All flesh must be eaten. Purely to get his name out because they paid but a couple of cents per word. Now once he got his name out he began seeking to write for his favorite world, we will call it "Corvus Corax loft". Learning that doors were closed on writing for this world he began to seek help on writing or helping for a new edition; this new 2(2) edition if you will. Speaking with some of his friends also in the write up field he learned that soon 2(2) write ups would be closed but soon after "Corvus Corax loft" would be open for write ups again because they would need alot of work to be done for them to fill all the areas and positions that are not occupied by "keepers" of the realm whose novels had been reprinted; namely a bard wolfwere from forgotten realms, a well known count and his greyhawk based lich enemy. Thats correct. You understand me. "Corvus Corax loft" would be scraping all but three.
Saddning thought huh. Boy thank the heavens that this never really happened to anyone i know.

You interest me strangely with this hypothetical tale.

Man, 2nd Edition had it all, especially if you;re running a Forgotten Realms campaign, but 3e/3.5 works best for Ravenloft in my opinion.

However, 4th Edition has been announced at Gen Con. What does that mean for Ravenloft fans? Well, it has also been announced that 4th Edition will not be OGL. 3rd party publishers will have to buy the rights to publish what they want using the 4th Edition rules.
That doesn't change too much since, Arthaus had to buy the rights to use Ravenloft material any way. But we'll definately see less 3rd party material out there.
This has been corrected by sources at WotC--4E will be Open, and the SRD will be updated.
They're still thinking about how they want to handle the d20 STL, which took a beating in the marketplace with all the sub-par material released under the logo.
Oh, and James Wyatt, one of the three lead designers on 4E, is an old-school, die-hard Ravenloft fan--Bill Connors dedicated Domains of Dread to him and his wife. There's hope for us yet, folks.
In my opinion, they're about five years too soon. And, I wonder, with the announcement of 4e, how's that going to affect the sales of the upcoming Rules Compendium ?
Anyway, after viewing the D&D 4e Gen Con presentation on YouTube, I feel they spent more time talking about product / game integration with computerized game tools than the game itself. While tools to play on-line is good, I actually like FEWER things to carry to a face-to-face game. My laptop stays at home. I hope all the computerized stuff is completely optional. Thus far, it sounds like it will be as the internet stuff will be a SUBSCRIBER-based option -- i.e. pay-to-play with the fancy tools . . . which means I'll do without them. Why ? Because, after your initial investment in the core rules, playing the game is FREE and all other things (adventures, sourcebooks, etc) are optional.
Will I convert to 4e ? Doubt it. I've got so much invested in really good 3e material that buying into 4e doesn't sound like a good idea. Besides, I'm sure that the various versions of the 3.5 SRD will be on-line for some time after 4e hits the shelves, so new players to my game will have available reference material rules-wise.
My opinion about 4e being five years too early still stands.

Well, they said that the time of Unparalleled Darkness was coming... This could very well be it.
