Café de Nuit

Benn has been watching from the shadows, finding the methods barbaric to his educated senses. He, however, steps forward now, a blank look on his face.

"This doctor," Bennedict says, laying his accent on thick, "I have heard of him before. Tell us about him. Tell us everything you know. It may just save your life."

He pauses for a moment, gesturing outside of the man's eyeline, but down where Norzak can see it for the dwarf to hold for a moment. You can have your fun in a minute, herr dwarf he wills, pleading against reason for the violent dwarf to contain himself. This man may know of our true enemy, and where to find him. We need him lucid, for that much at least.

"Is he the one who took the things we were keeping here at this office? What does he need them for, exactly? What are his interests in antiquities?"

The man cries out in fear and pain as Cirdan batters him. When it is over, he lays on the floor, his bonds somewhat loosened by the thrashing- yet he makes no attempt to escape. When Benn questions him, he answers in a shaky voice-

'' Yes, I think so. Van Diecks said he wanted the things so he and the Doctor could use them- for what, he never told the rest of the crew. I learned not to ask too many questions- Van Diecks doesn't like that. I don't know the Doctor well- none of us do- except Van Diecks. Pierre Renault and the old boss, Malreux- they did business of some sort with him, but they're both dead now. ''

After Benn questions the man, Dorgio heads off to his room to procure one of the few unsmashed bottles of liquor. He brings it into the common room, then takes a swig of it in front of the thug. He'll then hold the bottle up to the thugs lips. "For the pain," the cleric says, though Dorgio hopes the booze will loosen the man's tongue as well.

"Now this Doctor, you must tell us everything you know about him. What is his name, what does he look like?" Then his eyes narrow. "Is this the first time he's murdered one of the girls?"

He pauses, to let that sink in. "Or did you not know about her? Red hair, cut to ribbons by the time we tried to save her." He shakes his head, then takes another swig of the liquor for himself. "Has the doctor done that before?"

Jons eyes flutter open as he hears the rest of the party in the other room of the office. Letting out a sigh, he tries to move from the bed to see what the commotion is. The sharp pain of his ribs and his swollen and maybe broken body wouldn't let him move. Trying to call to the others for help brings no sound just the taste of his own blood.

I'm dying, Jonathan thought to himself unafraid, Soon I will see my family again...

Darkness came then to Jon, his eyes closing and his breath coming dangerously slow.

Cirdan turns around and silently watches the interrogation.

(Batman voice:)

"Norzak - should he not answer, or should the answer not be to your full satisfaction, take off part of his manhood. I am tiring of these games."

Then, the elf will leave the room, take of his helmet, and look for Jon.

Tears will shimmer in the knight's eyes. He doesn't enjoy what he is doing, but he sees no other way.

Norzak grins real big after Cirdan leaves the room. He stays near the man, but doesn't interfere, letting the others question him. Speaking in a clear voice, and dead serious, he says "Ye got it elf. And bub" looking right at the thug now, eyes on his "I's cut digits off afore, an e'en if it ain't a finger, I will do it. Ye got two choices. Tell us what ye know or else. Unnerstood? I don' make lame promises, ask these here peoples."

He removes a stone from his pack and begins sharpening the dagger, looking from time to time to the thug and back to his dagger.

main room of office-

The prisoner is obviously terrified of the dwarf and the menacing armored figure. He has trouble speaking at first, but as the liquor given to him by Dorgio begins to take effect he speaks more freely.

''Ah, the Doctor...I don't know his proper name. Everyone calls him the Doctor because he's a real chirugeon with a fancy education, not like the ordinary sort of barber.

People say he's from some city called Toyalesse. It's far beyond Barovie, from what I hear. I don't know much about foreign countries.

You can pick him out of a crowd easily, because he's tall and thin, and bald as an egg. Oh, and he has weird tatoos under his clothes- one of the girls told me that after he visted the Lorelei. She wouldn't say what he did to her, only that she was frightened of him and didn't want to see him again. Van Diecks beat her when she complained about that, I remember.


Now, the girl...red hair? That must be Rosalind. Why would anyone want to kill her? Was that what all the screaming was over- someone found her all cut up like you said? What a shame, she was a sweet girl.

I don't know if the Doctor had anything to do with it.

He was at the Lorelei earlier this evening, that's for sure. I saw him myself, speaking with Van Diecks. I heard him say something about ''the next full moon'' and Van Diecks answered by saying ''yes'', but I missed the rest of it.

I don't know where he is now, but perhaps he's gone back to his shop? It's along the Court of Crows. ''

Norzak's room - to one side of the main office-

Cirdan finds Jon in Norzak's room, concealed beneath a blanket on the floor. The boy is obviously injured very badly, and seems to be only semi-conscious. His breathing sounds labored.

Marie lays motionless on the dwarf's unmade bed, staring at the wall with a blank expression.

"Good, very good," Bennedict says, recording the man's answers into his memory so he can pick through them later. "And Van Deicks, he got away from us. Do you know where he would go to ground?"

After hearing that the group is getting some useful out of the thug . He starts looking for Jon in the house . On finding him he checks to see how he is . Then he put's a mask on to conceal his identity from the thug . Going to Dorgio he whispers in his ear" Our new friend who fought Van Diecks is suffering from his fall needs your aid now !!!!" Pulling on Dorgio's arm to get him to come along to the room Jon is in .

Dorgio raises a brow when Alain tells him the news. He then abruptly turns away from the interrogation to find Jon. "Baszd!" he curses under his breath when he sees the boy. Kneeling over him, he chants a prayer of healing, and watches to see if the bleeding stops. "Come on, lad, I'm sure you've had worse, pull through."

main room, the office

''Euh...I'm not really sure. I've been told he keeps a few safehouses around town-but I swear I don't know where they are! He was very careful not to let too many people know. If he's not on his houseboat, or with the Doctor, then I don't know where he'd be. Really, I don't know! ''

With Cirdan and Alain standing nearby, Dorgio calls upon the Moringlord to heal the injured boy. As the warm glow of life-giving energy passes into Jon, his eyes flicker open and his breathing returns to normal. His wounds no longer bleed. He looks much better, but still somewhat battered.

The pleased look leaves Bennedict's face, replaced with passionless ice. "That is...unfortunate," he says, keeping his expression neutral. "You may want to think hard about this next answer..." he pauses, looking over at the dwarf who is sharpening his dagger before looking back to the terrified man, "If you had to make a choice, if you had to bet your LIFE on it, where would you think we would find our things, the artifacts taken from this office? The doctor's place on Court of Crows? The houseboat? Or have your men already taken them into the sewers?"
