"Well, Mara, thank you for your hospitality. You must allow us to return it soon. Are you usually free at about this time? Perhaps you would like to visit us for dinner?"
Mara answers-
''Oh yes, I'd love that! Yes, I'm usually done with work by now-it's midnight, after all.''

"Innnovrdil," grumbles Troll-Blaise after hearing the news, "kran you turrn me back, plreeaaz?" He nods enthusiastically at the offer of the fly spell and moves up the drain with the others.

Alain smiles at the young girl. "Do not worry. It is not you that has hurt my feelings. It is my own pride that has cut me."
He turns to leave, before doing so he turns and says, "Good evening,Mara." he then leaves the shack.
Outside Mara's Home
Alain turns to look at Shana. He raises his eye brows in a small expression of frustration.
"Perhaps we can somehow get in touch with the others. Maybe we still have a chance to rendezvous."
While Shana and Alain are conversing, they may notice a reddish-orange glow in the eastern sky, across the rooftops of the city. It is hours away from dawn, though...
rectory, Morningmist Hall
In the hallway, the last of the defenders, a young woman in armor fighting with mace and shield, goes down under a pile of child-vampires. She screams piteously, but the creatures show her no mercy. At least for her, life ends quickly.
Chansobal groans as the defiled and re-animated saint beats him half to death, shattering his limbs with powerful blows of her hands and feet. His body and spirit are strong, but surely he cannot take much more of this punishment. His heart is being crushed by some terrible force. Incredible agony rips through his broken, bleeding body. Then, just when the pain becomes impossible to bear, the lights go out and all is blackness and silence.
The 'servant girl’ stands over the dead high priest of Lathander. In her right hand she grips a human heart, Chansobal's, still pumping even as smoke curls from its singed tissues.
The masked man at the woman's side now congratulates his ally-.
''Masterfully done! Our minions have slain all that they could find. Let us vacate the place- it is burning and I am not immune to fire!''
Indeed, the temple is aflame. The air is tainted with smoke, and breathing is becoming difficult.
in the drain underneath the King's Tower
Flying ahead, Threan discover that the drain pipe connects to a big square [twenty cubic feet, perhaps] room. The floor is choked with all manner of filth; fish bones, rotten vegetables, and less describable things. A chute [too small for anyone but a gnome or child sized person] in the ceiling provides airflow and a possible egress. In the back of the room are two human children, bound hand and foot and laying aid the garbage on the floor. They whimper and kick at the bonds. Both have been gagged with filthy rags stuffed into their mouths.
Flying further back in the drain tunnel, Blaise [now restored to human form] notices that the source of the magical pollution seems to be one of the small side pipes. It's just big enough to stick his arm up the hole. This smaller pipe enters the larger tunnel at a downward angle, so that water drains easily, drawn on by gravity.

Alain takes a few tentative steps away from the home towards the glow.
"If that's not the sunrise then something is amiss...Lets go!"
He then begins to run in the direction of the light.
As Alain runs down the street and around the corner, moving to the east, he spots the source of the reddish glow: tall plumes of fire rise above the rooftops in the distance. A cloud of black smoke drifts across the crescent moon, bringing deeper darkness to the night.
The winds have shifted now, blowing in from the sea and are carrying a heavy sea-fog into the city.

Blaise says to Jamethon and the others (presumably except for Threan, who is further ahead), "It's coming from this pipe, but it's obviously too small to climb into. Judging from the angle, it might be directly above us. Let's keep moving and look for another way up." He sniffs the air unpleasantly. "You know, as a troll, my nose kind of liked this smell. Blech."

Alain maintains a reasonable pace as he makes his way towards the inferno(Would have said Blaze, but that could be confusing. heh), trying to keep a watchful eye as he makes his way, the attempted mugging he faced the other night being all to fresh in his mind.
Jamethon, just ahead of Blaise in the drain, whispers-
''Above us, eh? That makes sense. But what is over our heads? I know the castle fairly well, having spent some time here, before... ''
He bites off his words and pauses briefly before going on-
''If I had to guess I'd say that we are under the least used portion of the citadel. Not much in that area apart from the tombs, and the garrison kitchen and storehouse. My workshop was there, too, but it was destroyed in the fire.''

As the bard jogs down the avenue, looking now and again to either side for potential muggers [or worse...] he sees hears a thunderously loud, hollow, and distinctly metallic CLANG from the east [direction of the fire]. The sound echoes and reverberates across the city like a trump of doom.
Doors open and fearful men and women peek out, eyes turning towards the fire lit sky. Candles spring to life in some windows as Alain runs past. Many voices cry out in confusion and mounting panic-
''That awful noise, what was that? What has happened? Merciful gods, the city is burning again! FIRE!''

"We need to go up and block the source. I know that we cannot pass now. If there is no way to go up now, tomorrow I can prepare a spell and with that I'll be able to see what is up there. But for now we need to take care of the children and be sure that are no other undead children around."

Ironheart bellows loudly, sounding quite alarmed. Anyone looking back [turning around requires a tuck-and-roll for anyone bigger than child-sized/gnome-sized] will see Ironheart being dragged out of the tunnel by multiple small humanoid figures, fiendish brats with red eyes and ripping claws!
Garbage room at the far end of the main drain tunnel:
As the monsters drag Ironheart away from the party, Threan witnesses a greenish cloud of gas pour down from the narrow chute over his head in the garbage room. Six red eyespots glow in the misty green stuff as three more of the monster-children begin to solidify right in front of the gnome!

Aiming over Glim [easy enough when he's so small] Inovidil quickly releases a spell at one of the two half-formed vampires in the garbage room. A terrible scream rips through the air, accompanied by a spear-like mirage of hazy air that flashes from Ino's hands to her target. The undead monster disintegrates into a mist of blood droplets, which spray across the room. There's nothing left of it but the blood!
Now there are only two little vampire-brats in the room with Threan and the two living children [who are still tied up!].

Blaise turns around at Ironheart's cry and unleashes a red-and-silver bolt of energy at one of the undead! "Demons that would chew on veins / I pledge your doom in these foul drains!"
