Even jumping in to defend/rescue Ammanas is a hostile action.
Physically interfering with the execution of justice and the operation of lawful authority is a crime.

lol they actually have a feat for that in some games like shadowrun. Though what 'provokes' is clearly up to the other party for miscommunication. Hell, bowing or giving a funny look could be seen by as a hostile action to someone.

Not that either one of our opinions is correct. Your's is correct in this situation since it coincides with the DM which is the law of the game. My opinion is that a defensive posture is not an action that commits you to violence. Buuuuut that's just me .

Hmmmm, common sense doesn't really play into this situation. Even if I knew that Otto's weapon could kill most 1st level characters with one hit, I still would have jumped to defend Ammanas. It's in character for Nicodemus. That's all I need to feel comfortable.

And in an apparent battle between two Darkonese officials (I understood that both the Legate and Ammanas were from the same order of priests) Nicodemus was obviously going to side with the character that had proven he was trying to help the people through the night. Not the guy whose group is leading a little girl around tied with a rope around her neck.

I don't see where any of us actually roleplayed poorly, or roleplayed foolishly. We all just roleplayed. No harm there.

Never saw Ator. But it will be on my Netflix tonight if they have a copy.

I edited that previous post to make it clear I was just ribbing Zilfer. He teased me about 'body language.' We've had some banter going.

For what it is worth, I (moi, the player, out of game) thought that Nicodemus acted heroically. His actions seem in character. He's also a foreigner, yes? So maybe he doesn't realize how things work in Darkon, doesn't know the hierarchy, although he's probably learning fast.

Varian, earlier in the thread, used common sense and fled. But he died.

Yeah, when I made up Nicodemus I was pushed into the Lawful Good alignment to become use the Detective prestige class. I had to decide if I was going to be the kind of lawful good that followed the local laws simply because they were the law or pursued a higher idea of orderly and benevolent actions.

Obviously, I felt that Ravenloft called for the latter. You couldn't keep a Lawful Good alignment untainted for long if you traveled into different despotic kingdoms were corruption and official violence were common place, you know?

I'm glad you agreed on the alignment. I shuddered after I posted that last bit because I thought I might have started an alignment debate. I try to avoid those like bullets and boils.

That leaves Boiros and Caitlin, and Otto as the legate's enforcer.
