Keeping a low voice, he says "I'm in agreement to ye, Benn. Tha ezran temple's a good as place as any ta start. And," he pauses unsure of how to say it, but then says it anyways in his colorful way "Benn, not only is we behind tha eight-ball, but I get tha feelin' we are allas' one step behind them varmints. It's really really frustratin to say tha leas'. In fact I dunno bout ye, but I've a hunkerin' to get the heads up on these dolts. I'm jess tired of us runnin' roun' like a chickens with no 'eads, if ye catch me meanin'."
He thinks about Jon's reactions to him lately and frowns. "Hey Lad, could ye give Benn an me a minute? Mebbe wait for us by the door? I wanna ask him somethin' of a personal matter. Won' be long, I promise, ok?"
Once Jon leaves their presence, Norzak hunches in and speaks to Benn in a very uncetain tone. "I's wanna tell ye bout Jon's reactoions to me since we metted. I dunno if it's normal but I don' think 'es e'er had a da or ma ta take care 'o him." Norzak relates how Jon reacted to him just before Benn entered the Pub. "I dunno, I means I think I should tell ye, I's was a da afore, but" Norzak looks at the floor, a tear appearing at his eye "but I loss both me girl n me lady to enemies. I wonner if Jon thinks me as a da figure? I ain' averted ta it. Might do tha both of us some good."
He holds his head in his hands, running his fingers over his bald pate. "I thoughted mebbe as I've know ye the longest, ye might offer me some advice. I knows ye think I may be a bit brash but my ways is me ways. Ye cain' teach an ole dog new tricks overnight, ye know. Well, I wanted yer opinion is all."
"The boy has demons, to be sure," he says, choosing his words carefully. "He's probably a step away from the sanitarium, to be honest. It couldn't hurt for him to have someone to follow, at least for a while. But Norzak," he takes a chance, dropping a comforting hand over the dwarf's, "You have to understand, I saw the boy's expressions during last night's...activities at the office. I understand that your ways are your ways, but I have a feeling that sort of thing is pushing him in a direction that neither you nor I want him to go. Perhaps some restraint may be in order for the future. And besides, men have an easier time talking when their teeth aren't broken in, as it were."

If the boy's cold gaze has any effect on the priest, he doesn't show it, as if he's used to being stared at. Instead, he turns the paper in his fingers and considers Jon's words. "Yes, Stoneguts!" he finally says, cracking a grin. "You think your old boss would get along with Norzak? Where could we find him, in the sewers?
"And keep an eye on those wounds. If they start to bother you, let me or Benn know. I hate to say it, my friend, but we'll endure more before this is sorted out."

"Stoneguts is a good fellow. To be honest he was the first Dwarf I ever met and well, I enjoyed his company so much thats why I came to the Brazen Bees in the first place. I have him to thank for meeting you all. He usually comes in here after a shift as its the only good ale in town."
Jonathan watches Norzak and Benn in the corner talking, sure that he'd heard his name on the tongue of the dwarf. He trusted that Norzak would look out for him if the discussion went against Jonathan. He was never comfortable with people talking behind his back. It was always the adults who thought they knew the best for everything, and they always sent Jonathan away because he was too young to hear their grown up words. Secrets was what they were keeping from him, and secrets were power.
"Actually Dorgio...my hand has been hurting where Van Dieks bit it. Its healed a bit, but it hurts alot. So does my stomach. The pain has been with me since the fall last night, and has darkened my attitude a bit. Could I be hurt where I can't see?"
Jonathan moved to the seat next to Dorgio and showed him his hand where Van Dieks had bit him.

Dorgio can plainly see that the boy's hand is injured. It isn't bleeding now, nor is it oozing pus, but the teeth-marks are deep. It looks as if the pimp tried to chew the poor lad's hand off- champing and gnawing at it like some feral beast. The flesh around the bite is bruised, swollen, and flushed.

Dorgio peers at the wound. "It may simply require another prayer to heal fully, but there is a chance that some foulness is irritating your blood. A bit of dirt or some dung, possibly. If that is the case, I have herbs which should help restore the balance of things." He examines the wound more closely, searching for any telltale signs of infection, both mundane and supernatural.

Certainly the wound is infected- but nothing about it clearly indicates a supernatural disease. Then again, one cannot rule that out entirely with such a cursory examination. Dorgio does indeed posess a store of medicinal herbs that would be useful for a poultice.

"I appreciate your help Dorgio. I have felt oddly since that fight with Van Dieks and wondered if my injuries were worse than I thought them to be. Alain is off on his own still inquiring about the Doctor, and I know Sir Cirdan has proposed we go to a luncheon at that family's house we left Marie at. I am still hungry but I think a foray into the sewers is necessary. For that to work the best we should make haste to the archives at the Ezra Church and learn what we can about the pipes and their history."
Joining the others Jon looks to Norzak and seems slightly embarrassed as he speaks.
"Are you learned enough to teach me to read?" He asks the dwarf.

"Yeah I hear ye loud an clear, Benn. I's thinkin' per'aps I kin be more careful from now on, seein' as my influence is important in the eyes of the lad. They're impressionable at that age. An I do likes me teeths!" Norzak laughs at that remark before adding.
"All right, let him ta me, 'es in good hands. So tween ye an me, I's be responsible for tha lad now. I think tha others will agree on that. He needs it too." HE grips Benn's hand in a strong firm handshake. "Thanks fer tha advice, yer an allright fella in me book, Benn."

Norzak looks at Jon and grins. "A course I kin teach ye to read an write! Now sit ere with us lad" he pats the seat next to him "An let's see what we plan ta do today, ok?" He looks to the others and asks the obvious question "So whut we doin' today lads?" When Jon sits next to him, Norzak grips his shoulder with affection and winks at the lad.

"The Ezran archive is the only lead we have, and a slim one at that." Bennedict mutters ruefully. "I suggest we start there. It's not going to be very exciting work, though. I suggest that most of you see to provisioning for our expedition. We never did get around to hunting down silvered weaponry."

Dorgio peers at Jon's wound, "My friend, it is looking a bit nasty. I can make a salve that should stave off the festering. I'll procure those before we are leaving."
Turning towards Benn, he replies, "Yes, it may be best, but perhaps we should pay Sancerre a visit? He may need to be, ah, updated on the situation."

at the Watchman's Club-
Lord Skybolt wrote:"So how are you today Jules ? " Alain start's in his check for information on the "Doctor " by visiting his friend .
Jules looks up from his midday meal of porridge, wine, and pears.
''Ah, Alain! Good to see you again, my friend. I'm fine- and you, you are well?''
Once Alain assures Jules of his well being, the older man is happy enough to answer questions about the mysterious Doctor.
''Oh, that one. Yes, yes, I know a little about him. Zoltan Anskuld- that's his actual name, at least what he signs on papers. He's a Hazlani, one of the gentry of that barbaric nation. You can tell that by the weird tattoos he wears on his skin- only the aristos of his homeland have such. Queer custom, but they're foreigners- meaning no offense to you, of course. Whatever country birthed you must have been a civilized one, Alain.''
Here Jules laughs out loud and takes a drink of claret, offering Alain a glass of the same.
''I don't know too much about where he came from, not really, but I do know a little about his activities since he came here over a year ago. He works as a chirugeon, selling his services out of a little shop near the Great Gallows. Why he set up a shop for healing folks next to a place where we hang men, that I don't know. Maybe he has a sense of humor about these things, eh? In any case, his clientele ranges from neighborhood poor folks to gangsters and thugs. He's well known for not being picky about whom he stitches up, you understand. ''
Taking another drink before continuing, Jules then adds-
''I've heard rumors that Zoltan- the Doctor- has been making inquiries with the Ratters and the Sewerworkers. About what, I've no idea.''

"You're right of course," Benn says, "I had hoped to have something a bit more substantive to offer, however, when the time came.

Bennedict harrumphs, resigning himself to his employer's displeasure. "Very well, we'll meet at the Sancerres' for luncheon, then. It's possible he's heard something new."
