Staunton Bluffs Episode IV: Siege and Stand

[OOC: Not sure if I saw any of this as I was with the boy. Please let me know.]

[You saw the explosion - while following the others, I assume - but cannot tell how it was caused... And of course, you see Roland, the newcomer, flying high in the sky over that cloud of dust...]

OOC: Er, what? Roland's 20 feet in the air--how on earth did Shana run into him? Some weird distance-distortion thing?

You float above a thick, dirty pile of smoke and fire...

And suddenly you see two greenish lights flash up...

[ er I am presently swinging my great sword to and fro, just wondering how Shana got underneath my swinging and bumped into my nose...... ]

Stuck in their unvoluntary wrestle, Brethana and Shana fall down into the smoking hay...

And then, Shana hears an all-too-familiar growling from next to her right ear...

"Fools! Why follow what You can't catch and can't see!"

You hear mean laughter from inside the clouded cornfields...

And then, a small, but fiercely looking dagger flies out of the fog and is slammed against the iron shovel...

Better attack or search some cover...

Brethana startles a moment, then growling back at the beast, takes a mighty swipe at it....Initiative 4+11=15, Attack (Rage) 5+1+1+16=23

George says to the boy: "Stay in the barn and hide!"

He then runs to help his companions, possibly attacking the beast with Brethana.

With a yell Shana leaps back from the hound as Brethana surges forwards, and sweeps her hands up as an echoing snarl comes from the corn behind the hound. An instant later, a larger canine emerges from the corn and begins nipping at the heels of the hellhound, trying to set up a hamstring move.

[ghost sound followed by Silent Image to produce a hound in flanking position on the first]

As soon as the dagger hits Alain's trusty shovel he gives a startled cry.
He crouches down and moves into the field a short ways to find cover and also to try and slowly make his way over to the area where the explosion occured.
(Move Silently 6 + 16 = 22)

With a yell Shana leaps back from the hound as Brethana surges forwards, and sweeps her hands up as an echoing snarl comes from the corn behind the hound. An instant later, a larger canine emerges from the corn and begins nipping at the heels of the hellhound, trying to set up a hamstring move.

Shana hasn't even finsihed her spell, when Brethana breaks the hellhound's neck, smashing her broadsword against it.

The fog is dispersing now and... Small flaming, glowing lights swirl out of it into the sky and hit Roland several times... While the first ones don't seem to produce any damage, the last two ones burn Roland's clothes... [1 DAM, better get your clothes out!]

As soon as the dagger hits Alain's trusty shovel he gives a startled cry.
He crouches down and moves into the field a short ways to find cover and also to try and slowly make his way over to the area where the explosion occured.

...And is missed by another dagger... Two others follow, accompanied by a loud clicking...

George says to the boy: "Stay in the barn and hide!"

"NO! I won't stay back!" The boy, yelling and shouting runs after George, to the scene of battle...

Suddenly, the cloud of dust extends, seemingly without reason, and blows up until it covers a space at least double as big - all of those who stand near the explosion, are enveloped by brown and stifling dust...

Those in the cloud cannot see a thing any more...

Brethana looks down at the Hellhound in contempt, and then looks around making sure Shana is ok and nodding to Louis and the boy, Great Sword bloody , she wipes it on the dead Hellhound, and takes in her surroundings then as the cloud makes us see no more, tells everyone out loud to remain calm , "Little one stay close to us so no harm comes to you, follow the sound of my voice friends, and let us stick together".

From somewhere above the party there is a loud curse, and then a half-burnt cravat and waistcoat land somewhere in the murk. Their owner does not follow them down.

OOC: Roland will spend a round stripping off his burning clothes and dropping them while going (more or less) straight up to get out of the cloud. So that's standard action (taking off the coat and cravat) plus move action, 60 feet halved for going up, puts him 50 feet above the ground.

George rushes to his companions to help and, hearing the boy's intention to follow, he resolves to keep an eye on him.

He finds, however, that he cannot keep an eye on anyone as he is engulfed in a cloud of dust.

"Stay near me, boy" he says quietly as he trains his ears for the sound of enemies.
