Does Sara light a torch ? If not when she gets to the entrance and looks in it she see's nothing but darkness 20 feet beyond the entrance . It just look like a cave in the area she can see into .

No she doesn't light a torch. Since the light isn't enough she will just go back and enter with the others.

"What danger could a cave have for a dwarf?" = famous last words?

Isidar walks up and looks into the mouth of the cave. No need to go in fully, yet.

In a campaign with my brother as DM we sent the halfling rogue to investigate a cave a bit, we waited, waited, waited and when we finally entered we saw dust and a naga waiting for us...You can immagine who was the dust...That's why I think it twice before entering alone in caves and such.

As Isidar comes to the mouth of the cave she feels wind as it goes over her head into cave . The eerie sound heard earlier is heard only much close coming from the cave as she approaches the cave . As she looks into the mouth of the cave she see's at the top it a round concave rock formation that maybe be the source of the sound .

The cave entrance to the cave is about 10 feet wide . With her vision she sees that the passage beyond the entrance slopes downward after about 20 feet .

Shouldn't this be posted IC?

No in my opinion since this is for Isidar as she is the only one who see's this :) .
And also she has not related this at all so far to the rest of the party, but when she does so eventually so it will be here for rest of you to see .

Suggested marching order:

Sara

Isidar

Arnulf

Dalorna

Alia

The Prof

That's single file, of course. If the cave is big enough, I suggest we have ARnulf move beside my PC and Alia move beside the professor.

The thief is out front because she's the trap-checker.

If something snuffs the torch and nabs out thief, the dwarf has a good chance of seeing it. Spelunking, we want to take advanatge of the dwarf's abilities. She's not as quick on her feet as the rest of us, so we don't want her too far behind if a fight develops up front. She's easily the best-protected PC.

Arnulf is perhaps our best hand to hand guy, and he's quick on his feet. We don't want him in the rear. He'll want to be near his sister, to protect her.

Dalorna will be in the middle. Good place to out the unarmored wizard with 9 strength!

Alia and the Prof can take up the rear. Keep an eye on our backs, Prof.

If something attacks us in the front, Isidar and Arnulf can advance to melee as Sara strikes quickly and then falls back. Dalorna will use magic if necessary. Alia's bard-fu worls just fine with her out of the thick of the fray.

If something manages to sneak up on our rear, the Prof can fall back as Arnulf speeds to his rescue. Barbarians are faster. :azalin:

Thoughts?

I shall wait for everyone else to post what the marching order is before I start your exploration of the cave with a post :) .

Looks good to me. Alia doesn't need to be in the thick of the fight, especially since her weapon is a crossbow. And with her Precise Shot feat you don't need to worry about her using a crossbow from halfway down the party in a dark corridor!

Oh wait... Precise Shot... I was sure... oh.

Oh well, Precise Shot's not a very important feat anyway right?

Right?

Right?

Are you volunteering to put her in the front rank? :azalin:

Shoot and scoot. We'll put you near the front- but don't stay there in a fight. Get behind the dwarf.

We can move Arnulf back. His fast move will still allow him to get up front and attack in a single round if we stick close together.

Suggested narrow passage marching order, revised:

Sara

Alia

Isidar

Arnulf

Dalorna

The Prof

wide passage-

Sara

Alia and Isidar

Dalorna and Arnulf

Professor

Don't forget five foot steps and combat rotation, guys. Shoot and fall back to reload. Flank if you're a rogue, Melee guys move up to pin down the opposition. Casters use buff spells, healing, magical attacks, et as needed. If you don't have precise shot, don't shoot into melee. We know this stuff.

Lets go kill some....ummm...whatevers.

If it looks really scary I may scoot and shoot. if it looks very very scary I may scoot and scoot...

In wide passage might be problem if Alia is 2nd because Sara will move behind the enemies to flank or hide in order to sneak, but that way Alia will be uncovered and easy to hit. I think it's better have Arnulf beside Isidar so they have both easy access in front fights. Also that way Arnulf can cover Isidar to move back and cast buff spells soemething she can't do if she is the only fighter in front line even for 1 round.

If we are attacked by the rear Alia can hopefully hold them for the little time Arnulf or Isidar need to come back. But since is cave and we haven't seen any sidepassages I think is difficult be attacked from rear for now.

Don't forget that you can take a move action and still attack in the same round. There is also the five foot step option.

Isidar might be better off buffing herself and then closing to attack. She's the best armored PC.

My orginal marching order placed her in the rear, because she's not espeically suited to battle. She could maybe drag back injured PCs and treat them. I moved her up because Kintire stressed the crossbow and the lack of precise shot.

If she's in front, she is vulnerable. On the other hand, she can shoot without hitting another PC, and then fall back.

It depends on how much warning we get, how much room we have to move and switch positions, and at what distance we encounter enemies. It might be quite close in a cave- or maybe the tunnels are long and straight. It was a mine, or so we've been told. It may be better to just forget about using that crossbow, Kintire. We'll have to see what conditions are like inside. and be ready to adapt.
