Back to Basics Chapter 1: Where are we ?

After Huln cast's the spell . He finds he can read it . It is list of Varoius mining tools for a major amount of mining to be done here considering the amounts listed like Foodstuffs for at least 6 mouths or more for at least 60 workers . This is surmised by the amount of personal mining equipment that is on the list like 60 mining picks/60 shovels/60 hammers/ and other types of personal mining gear like helmets in that amount or more . After reading through the list some of things on it looks like mass buying of spell components* . It was looking like the spell caster was going to be here a long time it seems .






*Huln see some that are spell components to spells he can cast like a 50 pounds of powdered silver for Bless Water spell or Protection from Evil spell for Arcane spell casters .

''Well, Professor, what does it say? Can you read it?"'

Huln eyes the paperwork quizzically and recites from the paper out loud verbatim.

"Strange, this looks as if some sort of spellcaster was setting up a lab, or some other grand scale project. Unusual for a mages tower to be built in the ground." He laughs a brief laught. "I jest, please forgive me."

''Hah ha, yes. Well, a mage of some sort? Hmmm...Maybe his lab, or whatever his project was, is someplace in this mine. If you all feel that we've searched this room well enough, shall we move along and explore other areas?"

[VAN]

Sara takes another look of the room and then says:

"I totally agree. I don't think there is something else to do here."

Alia nods politely

"The stygian gloom of this dusty hall seems untroubled by the passage of any creature, fell or fine. I am sure that many more secrets lie yet to revealed by the illimitable perspicatiousness of the noble lord and ladies!"

"Then let us proceed with caution." The professor's smile melts into a more neutral expression.

[Roofdrak]

Agreed. Professor, please bring that list along, so we can look at it and try to figure out the author's intent later.

The professor complies and stows away the note for safekeeping.

Carrying the valise in her left hand, Dalorna follows Sara and the Professor.

Alia prepares to assume her place in the marching order

Sara points the others the webs and says:

"I don't think something is here otherwise there would have been no webs. So where we go now? We try the other door or we go downstairs?"

''Sure...But maybe we should try burning away the webs?"

Alia, you are carrying the torch. Why don't you burn away some of the cobwebs to see if there is anything hidden behind them?

Dalorna hangs back while waiting for Alia to burn away the webs.

She says to the others-

''I think we should explore the rest of this level, and afterward go back to town. Downstairs can wait for now. Now, I suggest we proceed like so:

First, Alia torches these webs, so we can check out this apparent dead end.

Next, assuming there are no secret doors or passages hidden by the webs, we explore that room there-"


She points down the short hall to her left (south end of the intersection on the map, the room that's not drawn in fully, and is marked unexplored).

''I'm curious about that chamber. It may connect to one of the side halls we went by earlier, or maybe not. In any case, I'd rather look through any open rooms on this level before we breach more doors. Once we've cleared and searched that room, we can go back and check out the two closed doors we have found. What do you think, friends?''
