With a plus 11 will save, he can hardly fail. Just don't roll a nat 1.

This represents him stopping reading as soon as he realizes it's a curse. No, doesn't matter if he says it out loud or not, for this one.
Success= no effect.
Failure= no effect, now, but if he dies later without the curse being lifted...
On the plus side, if you do fail the save, dying will be one less thing to worry about.

This is just like those Doctor Who episodes, "Under the Lake" and "Before the Flood."

Result: no additional insight gained, but he knows how to destroy the writing in a safe way. Repeat certain phrases and make signs against evil, and then efface the runes in a particular order with a spade or a sharp stick. Acid arrow or a similar spell, as you suggested to me, could be useful for mopping it all up.

We may want to consider coming back and taking those horses with us when we leave town. As long as they don't have any official markings, we might be able to sell them off in Maur-Eturo.

I was thinking we grab them on way back after Fala does the scouting trip down the stairs actually and mentioned this to the GM when I talked to him early today .

Those help, thanks.

I have posted an initial exploration of the Darkling Stair.

Down the steps, through the magical darkness, to what lies beyond.

As I understood it, we agreed to let Fala find the end of the darkness alone. If it wasn't too extensive, Klokulf would accede to come back in the morning instead of having the party go down now.

Alright, Fala alone, or with Alain?

Kat, is your PC going down?

If not, I'll do a wee edit.
