The University and Academe of Richemulot

Post by IanFordam »

I just discovered that the University of Richemulot, known primarily for some of its, ah, shadier professors, doesn't appear to be canon. Instead, there are a couple of canon references to the Academe d'Richemulot.

Does anybody (especially tenured members of the Fraternity) know whether these are intended to be the same institution?

That wouldn't be necessary to be honest. You can consider them the same, or a different institution if you enlarge Richemulot to a greater size and population.

My take so far is that the University of Richemulot and Academe d'Richemulot as well as the arcane college of House of a Hundred Moths and L'Academie des Sciences are different educational institutions. The Academie d'Richemulot is a public institution funded by the government while the others are private institutions. In VRArsenal page 146 it states that the University of Dementlieu is cooperating with the University of Mordent, the Karina College d'Art, the Brautslava Institute and the Academie d'Richemulot. The Academie d'Richemulot was first introduced in the Requiem boxed set as being specialised in the instruction of theology, philosophy, and psychology as well the macabre. Viktor Hazan is a professor of philosophy so it could be that the Academe d'Richemulot and the University of Richemulot are the same institution (though I personally prefer not). L'Academie des Sciences is a different one and exists in various domains including Richemulot in Pont-a-Museau. Since the Academe d'Richemulot is placed in Mortigny as is the House of a Hundred Moths I have decided to have the University of Richemulot grounds be situated outside of St. Ronges away from the chaos permeating that city and the reason of the Fraternity of Shadows Richemuloise cell being based in that city. The University of Richemulot could have been funded by the Fraternity of Shadows to recruit potential new members focusing the subjects taught there on their research pool as opposed to Academe d'Richemulot which studies also the undead, something that is against the ethos of the secret society.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Mephisto. Between the differences in academic focus and the private/public split, we have two good reasons for two (or more) separate institutions to exist in Richemulot.

Incidentally, the reason for my question is of a recent Mistipedia trawl. I stumbled across the Academe d'Richemulot, and I had never before realized that it existed. I was further surprised to discover that the Academe came from canon sources while the University of Richemulot appeared to be strictly netbook canon. So I figured I would ask.

Thanks again!
