Sports? Olympics?

As I sit here watching the Olympics, it occurs to me to wonder- Ate there any actual sports in Ravenloft, outside of jousting or gladiatorial combat, perhaps?

I imagine Nova Vaasa would be big on equestrian sports: polo, jousting, races. Darkon might have the cultural setup for jousting, but with Azalin disinterested in it, people might feel awkward about making it a national pastime.
Gladitorial combat might flourish in places like Kalidnay and Al Kathos.

The Lady Fordam suggests boxing and fencing. The former strikes me as an Individian sport, while I can see the latter as a gentleman's sport in the western Core.

I could see boxing being a favourite in Paridon.

Oo. Yes.
Bare-knuckle boxing in the rougher parts of town, "Marquis of Queensbury"-rules in the fancier areas. The Celebrants of Humanity might sponsor some tournaments as displays of physical fitness and skill. Betting would be frowned upon, but will be a booming industry in the shadows.

I'd imagine that Dementlieu, especially, would have a fencing culture.
And possibly also Lamordia; even Mordenheim was required to learn fencing as part of a "gentleman"'s education. Lamordia's schools could hold the equivalent of Heidelberg fencing.

Regrettably, I could easily see Falkovnia holding contests "hunting the most dangerous game". =_= Big brutes in armour hunting down some poor schlub who's been sold out for "not working hard enough", or just because they're known to be a strong runner.

As for genuine Olympics, as in contests between the various domains in the field of sports...
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea.
Fencing contests would certainly be a popular event. Nova Vaasa, Borca, Dementlieu, Mordent, Lamordia, even Darkon would likely take part in such a thing. Maybe even Barovia, if Strahd felt like he could gain something from it.
Equestrianism would be a good candidate as well.
Various forms of martial arts - boxing, wrestling, even a little light wuxia - could be a real crowd pleaser.
The only problem would be establishing an accord between the various domains to establish safe conduct and rules for judging.

The Mist Games happens every four years, and we had three edictions until now. Pont-a-Lucine in Dementlieu, Luddendorf in Lamordia, and Mordent in Mordentshire. Lekar is to be the next organizing city.
