Staunton Bluffs

Post by Le Noir Faineant »

Hello,

I return to Ravenloft this fall with a new campaign, taking place in Staunton Bluffs.

As this domain is one of the lesser known ones, info is hard to find.
So my question is, can you tell me EVERYTHING you know about this domain?
Are there stats for the Darklord out there?
Any other thing?
Is the domain mentioned in any other publication than in the BB and Islands of Terror?

Just everything you can think of would be extremely valuable!

Besides, if you already adventured there, feel welcome to share your experiences with me!

Thank you in advance,

Rafael

The only place I know if information for Stauton Bluff's is in the Islands of Terror and the BB. I don't know if you have either of these so I am going to transcribe the data for you but this is 2nd Ed. stuff so you will have to convert ifyou are running a third ed. campaing.

Torrence Bleysmith:
AC 0; MV 9; HD 10; hp 60; INT 19, Wis 19, cha 16; #AT 1; Dmg Nil; SA ages 1d4*10 years SD see below AL LE; thaco 11;

He has the salient ability to move the castle dorrs and stuff, he is indestructible unless you hit his bones which are hidden and each one you break causes 1d8 points of damage to him.

That's the major stuff If I were converting him I would give him a couple of other salient abilities that are usefull only in the castle (or certain part's therein)

Sorry that is all I got, if you want a more complete description let me know.

Thank you!

I am just trying to get IoT on ebay, the box is already mine!

But since my luck at bidding can change, I appreciate any additional info you can give me! :D

Hi all,
Celia Whitmoor, an infected werewolf, was also from Staunton bluffs. she is currently in mordent, but is always on the lookout for her progenitor, to release her from her curse.

She was in one of the Book of S series, just a minute...Celia Whitmoor, from the book of souls by John W mangrum

a very nice article.

Actually, she and Argent are running the Duskpeace Lodge in Verbrek, a sanctuary for infected Lycanthropes.

It's one of thise great blank slate domains. Seemed like an alright place to live, one of the few in Ravenloft and a good place for a low-level campaign.

Indeed, Stanton Bluffs is a land populated by the descendants of invaders. Bleysmith killed his brother, his family and all his people in the war against these people, so he hates them. Yet, because of his curse, he cannot harm them. He and a collection of foul feinds reside in his castle, waiting for foreigners to stumble into his merciless clutches.

As I recall, the only way to destroy him permanently was to hang him with the rope with which he ended his own life.

What I liked about Sir Bleysmith is that any damage to his physical remains alters his ghostly appearance. So when a rock fell on his skeleton and shattered the arm bone, his ghostly arm became mangled and he felt the pain of the arm breaking. When he first died and rats began to gnaw at his corpse, his spirit felt each bite from them. It just made for a unique ghost. I was kind of sad to see Staunton Bluffs "go" with the Grand Conjunction...I'm hoping it makes a comeback in future 3.X ed. book.

It never left with the Grand Conjunction.

It just wasn't detailed or mentioned in any book after...
except for the core setting books of each edition
  • The Red Box (or was it Black :? , the post conjunction one)
  • Domains of Dread
  • Secrets of the Dread Realms
No detail maps or NPCs, but clearly still in the Misty Realms

I just checked all three of those, and there isn't a mention of Staunton Bluffs at all in them.

I do stand corrected on its vanishing, though. I checked the list of Islands of Terror that "dissappeared" in the Red Box, and it only listed Vechor, Sanguinia, and Farelle. I assumed since it wasn't listed anywhere in the Red Box, Domains of Dread, or any of the 3.x ed. stuff that it was one of the "lost" domains.

Funny how Vechor popped up again in Domains of Dread and Sanguinia came back in the 3rd ed. Campaign Setting hardcover...does that mean Farelle will come back too?

Farelle was hinted at in Van Richten's Arsenal, page 44, The Bone of Jackals.

And Ryan did a write up in one of the BoS. I reckon, if they continue the Gaz's, he'll push to do the Farelle section.
