So... anyone seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Post by Brandi »

Saw it Tuesday night. It's rather warped (but has fine Tim Burton visuals).
I'm not sure if Depp's creepy manchild Wonka works for me, but I rather liked the new Oompa-Loompas and their musical numbers, and Christopher Lee actually got more to do in this film than he did in the last two Star Wars films (which is pretty sad).

It's not out across here in Britain until the 29th, which also happens to be my birthday :)

All right, Wiccy, stop hinting for birthday gifts.

Gene Wilder's Wonka was a sadistic character; it'll be interesting to see the Burton/Depp version.
Pinky! Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

I think so, Brain, but didn't we give up ritual murder for Lent?

I'll jump in on that, my birthday is today (45!). :P

I took my goth-wannabe daughter & her Dread Friends to WW/C&tCF on the opening night, got there & it was already sold-out. They haven't asked again, but I expect they will want to go this weekend. They will let me go if I sit far away & pretend not to know them.

How dark was it compared to the original version? From what I remember, the original movie was fairly morbid.

I like Family Guy's take on Willie Wonka (they replayed on Tuesday on Cartoon Network IIRC). Instead of Willie Wonka and a chocolate factory, they had Pawtucket Pat and a brewery. "Take a drink, and you'll feel a state of pure inebriation."

Wish I could join you at your gathering tomorrow, that restaurant looks far nicer than anything near me. You should take a few pictures & post them here, I'd love to see y'all.

I still think the best person to play Willy Wonka would have been Marylin Manson, and I know he wanted the part desperately.

A friend of mine who went to an actual matinee with kids (I went at night and everyone was at least college-age) said three kids had to leave it was freaking them out so much.

Well no kidding, what with the boat scene, and all.

In fact, i was wondering if the new movie would be as messed up. The promos make it seem to be more cheerful.

I meant kids walking out of the *new* film, ScS. It's not the boat ride this time, which is actually rather pretty, but a freaky animatronic puppet display (which sings a song that I thinking I'm going to have to SCRAPE OUT OF MY BRAIN WITH A GODDAMN ICEPICK)...

I loved the puppet thing! It was great. I laughed so hard at that, just how everyone wants that "It's a Small World" ride at Disneyland to wrap up.
