Possibly the standard honorific used by the gendarmes to address their superiors, male or female. Or perhaps this cop's just a bit of a flake.

"She was in the war. Fighting, with the troops. You may call her 'sir'."

"SIR?"

As some astute people have noticed, we are back - somewhat. There are no promises here, but unless something horrible happens in the next two weeks, we're at least here until the resolution of the cliffhanger we left off on. Five years is a long time to wait to find out how Our Heroes get out of this pickle, and I have to apologize to the audience for that. Presumably it wasn't fun for the characters either.

A few other notes:

-A bunch of the earliest comics have been remastered, because they were extra-dreadful. That includes the pictures of Misroi and Epitaph.

-M'sieu Winters is now going by Elias Gauvain, which sounds a lot less "I'm thirteen and trying to be cool."

-For some reason, Thierri introduced himself as "Thierri Boucher", at which point Santine mistakenly dubbed him "M'sieu Bouchard" for the rest of the comic. She's the only person who does it, and it wasn't intentional on my part. I have no idea how that happened, and now it doesn't.

-The DrunkDuck comic site is officially defunct. I've forgotten my password and trying to reset it literally crashes the page. As I see no means to fix this problem... oops? So much for that. People with slower modems can find the comic archived on my DeviantArt site.

Since the former comic website is as dead as a dead duck, people with slow modems please refer here instead: http://starcrossed.webcomic.ws/comics/

Come away, come away, death,
And in sad cypress let me be laid;
Fly away, fly away breath;
I am slain by a fair cruel maid.
My shroud of white, stuck all with yew,
O, prepare it!
My part of death, no one so true
Did share it.
Not a flower, not a flower sweet
On my black coffin let there be strown;
Not a friend, not a friend greet
My poor corpse, where my bones shall be thrown:
A thousand thousand sighs to save,
Lay me, O, where
Sad true lover never find my grave,
To weep there!

-Shakespeare

Epitaph is way more awesome than any 8th level character I've ever had.

There's a large part of me that regretted the Falkovnian existed simply for him to be killed off in the first four pages - I think he would have been an interesting character in his own right. Of course, since he essentially started the story dead, there wasn't much to be done about that. There's also a rule among writers not to get too attached to characters, I'm pretty sure. He will not be the only such regret over the course of the story.

And there we are. With the exception of an epilogue, Chapter Three is over and done.

By the way, if anyone out there is still reading this comic, I'd sure love to hear from you. ;)

Thank you so much for finishing this! Your work is amazing- is there anyplace I can see more of it?

Also, in the Sept 28 page, are we supposed to recognize the "murderer?" I feel like I should, but I'm having a fit of the stupids.

Well, it's been a while. :( Fred met him back here: http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/foru ... 59#p105259

And still carried something of a grudge.
