It would help us picking a room if you gave a bit more of a description of the individual rooms.Taking a hint from NeoTiamat's PbP, how about you set the scene more and even give a few actual options what to do. Then we can decide and embellish as we post. This saves quite bit of the back and forth, back and forth needed to work out a scene normally.

Currently it feels a little like hanging in limbo.

So... major thread necro.

Rock, could you tell us what the mystery was?

All others: I'd really like to see some advanced versions of these PCs. Say 1,2 or 3 more levels. Just for fun, how would you have wanted to develop them? Especially the Swami and the half orc were awesome imho.

Oof! It's been a while...

Um, as far as I recall, the Dulapont family was (distantly) related to the Reniers. The ratty presence was actually due to Louise looking out for them; Mme. Dulapont was a loyal supporter, who kept the Dulapont family in Louise's corner.
One of the house's two sons - Traven - was involving himself with some seriously experimental combinations of black magic and mad science. He was married once, but lost his wife and child to an accident of some sort -- and he went nuts. He stole the bodies from the cemetery and had been trying to find a way to resurrect them through arcane magic. Sadly for everyone else in the household, the spells he had been developing were summoning something far different from the dead wife and daughter... especially since he was getting some cues from a book written by a demon.
The noises and shifting of furniture were caused by some zombies that were the unintended side effect of his experiments. They 'lived' in the walls, and came out at set times to perform part of the rituals Traven was using to gather the dark energy for his work.
Mme. Dulapont's problem was that she was reasonably certain what was causing the 'haunting', but she could not do anything about it; if she had Traven committed, her other son - Jeremy - would automatically inherit, and he was a bully - not to mention a covert follower of the Lawgiver, who would have turned the house into a catspaw for certain groups in Nova Vaasa. In addition, the author of Traven's demonic tome had come to see her and offered her a deal; if she provided it with several fresh bodies and souls - the adventurers - it would not only stop Traven's experiments, it would really restore his wife and child.

The demon might have kept its word, but if it had gotten hold of you, you would have discovered it was a bit of a scholar, too. And its idea of experimentation is... unpleasant.
