Yeah, they might do something crazy like hire a competent director who is also a huge fan and the writer of the undisputed best film in the series. Wouldn't want that to happen, would we? ;)

Besides, now when my kids ask who my favorite Disney Princess is, I can say "Leia."

Ha! Nice one Gonzoron. That last sentance made me laugh. xD

But yeah I'm not really worried about them having the rights. As long as they don't mention 'Mediclorians' we'll be good. :D

^I think the damage Lucas did to his own franchise is horrifying enough. Usually Disney stuff is to made to a very high standard, and they have the time, money and creative team necessary to do justice to the vision of the original films. Personally, I think Lucas has lost touch with his own material, and maybe it's not such a bad idea he's passing on the torch to someone else. I think it might just be the kick in the pants Star Wars needs after the damage of the (IMO) terrible prequel films.

A trilogy based on Grand Admiral Thrawn would be amazing. The sort of noble warrior, efficient administrator that makes for a multifaceted, interesting antagonist instead of a caricature.

This preference of mine should be well known to anybody who's heard me expound about Vlad Drakov...

I'm about as big a SW fanboy as they come (OK, that's a dangerous statement to make on the internet. No, I don't have a Life-size AT-ST or anything. I'm talking riiiiiight before the border of crazy-person, but no farther. Really.*) Yes, almost as much as I am a Ravenloft fanboy (I have to give the edge to RL, if only because I don't administrate a SW fansite, nor even post on one daily). I even liked the prequels, for the most part. But even I have to admit that it's time for George to walk away. And that nearly anyone could do better at this point.

* I own SW Trivial Pursuit. No one will play with me. I once got my wife and Brother-in-law to play, but only if I agreed to answer 10 questions right in a row to count as 1 right answer. I still won. If I hypothetically could play Ravenloft Trivial Pursuit against my clone playing SW Trivial Pursuit, I think the Ravenloft me would win, but it would be close. But then I'd have a clone, which is cool, and I wouldn't even make him add an extra vowel to his name, because that's dumb. (I loved the Zahn books when I read them like 15 years ago, but looking back on them now.... eh... this penny arcade comic comes to mind.)

I played that game. First question was what was the name of the first Red Squadron pilot to be shot down in the Death Star attack run. I said Porkins and everybody else promptly resigned. :(

Apparently we are cut from the same cloth. I bought that game at an auction and played with my family (who have seen the movies). I limit myself by not using the hyperspace spaces and I had several issues with being more correct or too specific (What did Han hit in the Millennium Falcon's cockpit in Empire? I said the Nav Computer in the rear of the cockpit. The card holder said that is wrong, it was the ceiling. I said the Nav Computer is above the entrance of the cockpit! It was counted as wrong. Maddening!). I found good points to the prequels, but the original trilogy was so much better (remakes be damned!).

Thank you, MOE. That pretty much explains all my fears and why I hate Diz-knee. That, and their pointless lawsuits against independent artists using their characters in ways the company didn't like. They had to have known others were doing similar things practically since Steamboat Willy debuted. So when the Internet brings such things out into the open they throw a legal temper tantrum and try to do what others before have failed to do with mail and 7-Eleven magazine racks, much less something as vast and decentralized as the Web. Do I really need to go on?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go be violently sick after seeing only the first few seconds of that video.

Is there a problem with introducing the younger generation to Star wars? It's not THAT bad, and it's not aimed at your audience. I would love to play with you Gonzoron but does it only include the Movie Trivia or does it open to EU?

I mean if I say....

Ysalamiri
Yuzhan Vong
Mandalorian
Great Hyperspace War
Miraluka
Darth Revan
Exar Kun
The Thrawn Campaign
Sith'Ari?
ect....

Do those even say anything to you?

To be fair, Lucas also threw around pointless lawsuits against fans.

The difference is, I think Disney can still choose to do good work when they want to, whereas Lucas clearly jumped the shark a long time ago.

It's kinda like the difference between Microsoft and AOL. Both are unscrupulous, but one actually puts out a halfway useable product...

In the interest of simultaneous rebuttal and getting this thread back to its advertised topic, I present the following

How can we have faith in Luca$film when they did THIS:

And THIS:

And most of all, THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS:

The horror, the horror.... the madness... the fear ... that leads to anger... and then to hate.... and then to suffering.... and then back to HORROR!!!!

But seriously, one thing I love about SW is how it's more than a movie series, it's a shared cultural icon, and can be re-used, re-mixed, joked about, spun towards kids (see MOE's link), spun towards, er... "adults" (see HMB's original comment that started this) etc. It's all in good fun. I don't think the same people who work on theme park attractions over at Disney will be on the new movies...

It's movie only, and OT only (I think there were a few bonus cards with Ep1 questions because the movie had just come out, or was just about to come out when the game was released.)
I mean if I say....Do those even say anything to you?
Yeah, I get about half of those. I'm not a big EU fan, but I've dabbled. And I get a lot by internet osmosis.

I have internet again!!!

I'm living in a new apartment and things are awesome. But I must dash, as there's a housewarming going on in five hours and things are still wrapped in bubble wrap.

I have no chairs. This may cause problems.

Internet has been a harrowing quest of tears and recriminations. At one point, LomboDot was reduced to becoming a Starbucks hobo.

For me, it's just nice to be on a proper computer again instead of trying to tell my smartphone to edit a forum post when the window won't actually scroll down to show the text I'm editing. I'm still relearning how to use a keyboard.

Right, now how do you send this thing again? My girlfriend's going to be very disappointed in me if she looks up and sees me posting about DnD stuff instead of surfing for porn.
