Anyone here try HMB? If so, what are your thoughts on the game?

I kind of liked it.

I think the basic engine was nice. Its a little bit more complicated than I like, but i enjoy the gritty realistic feel of it.

Its a game of balls-to-the-walls roleplaying where you can't get too attached to anyone and you have to risk death to get anything done.

Its a real step down power-wise, from other games that won't be mentioned. But victoy will bring a real sense of accomplishment. Hackmaster is a far cry from squashing ants.

One glaring flaw, however, is the book. For a Basic book crammed with information, way too much space is wasted on the die rolling section.

As a KotD fan, I thought it was funny, but way to much critical information is missing from the book to allow for such a flagrant waste of pages.

The damage for the Bouncing Betty Fireball isn't even listed, for crying out loud!

Also, I'm disapointed that Hackmaster is centered on the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting. I was all jacked up to go raising hell on Gaurweez Wurld.
