Does Nova Vaasa still have five moons?

Does Nova Vaasa still have five moons? Or did the Great Upheaval do a number on them? A canon determination one way or the other is what I am looking for. Thanx.

Nothing official was declared one way or the other, AFAIK. A lot of folks choose to disregard the "five moons" reference altogether, or otherwise hand-wave the issue, as it's not only inconsistent with other Ravenloft materials, but also with Faerun, the world the Hiregaards are implied to have come from.

FWIW, in my games I assume that the Vaasi word for "moon" is the same as their word for "planet", and that the night skies of the Core appear to have four visible planets plus a single genuine moon. The "five moons" reference isn't a discontinuity IMC, just a poor translation from Vaasi to Mordentish. ;-)

My solution is similar to Roti's; IMC the planets, which used to be referred to as "wandering stars" because of their orbits, are called "wandering moons" in Nova Vaasa.

If you count Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn (there's no reason to use Earth's planets, but no reason not to, and those are the five that were visible to the naked eye), then you have the "five moons of Nova Vaasa", which are NOT the same thing as the moon-moon.

Clever. But let's up stakes. How do you deal with the annual Night of Bright Truth, when all the 'moons' are full, and the annual Darkest Night, when all the 'moons' are new?

Simple. Bright Truth is when the moon is full and none of the four planets are visible over the Core, while Darkest Night has a new moon and no visible planets.

Perfect. Your speculation has not just won a place in Mistipedia.

Wouldn't that be all four planets visible for the Bright Truths?

D'oh! Guess the Typo Demon strikes again. As it apparently did in the thread's title too, FWIW. ;-)

And now may I infer that this was also a typo?

*Hands Cure a fresh Churchsteeple root.* This thread is officially possessed by a typo demon.

Indeed. [A nice, short, safe, six letter word.]
