"Agreed." Khalfani shakes his head as he walks. After a few moments, he says, "I do not wish to spread ill will, as it is often carried like sand on the wind, but I do not trust that man. I cannot say the reason. No, wait, I do know the reason. I sense that he was trying to intimidate us. The display of magic, the lack of reaction to our request, and even the casual way he revealed your lineage, Thomas... all done almost as if to say, 'Look what I know. Look what I can do. Remember this.'

"It was a very polite type of intimidation, but then the cobra's hood seems very attractive before it strikes. We are not done dealing with Master Arselius, I believe."

Robert nods.

"I did not have that impression, but it's not bad to be on the lookout. Let's see if he does keep his word about locating miss Weathermay and the book. At any rate, we may still try to locate the other bard we had heard of."

And so, you head for George Lemay's address. Khalfani knows that this is a bad part of the city. It takes you near forty five minutes
to arrive in the area alone. Another ten is spent looking for the address itself. Noone is about on the streets and it is so eerily quiet that
you can hear your own footsteps upon the cobblestone street. Finally you are upon the street of Lemay's address!

Listen, Spot and Search checks from everyone, please.

Khalfani freezes in his tracks. "We are not alone, my friends," he says in a very low voice. "Animal movements, growling, in the alleys around us. Prepare yourselves." He continues forward slowly, the beginnings of a spell on his lips.

With an easy flourish Thomas draws his short swords and puts his back to his companions. "Eyes to our perimeter. Be ready for anything."

Looking around Adam sees in four alleys large animals. They look like a flat headed beast with brown fur, a white stripe down the middle.

"I know nothing about these types of animals. Thomas can you recocnize them? Also on a rooftop there is a short figure that is looking on us. Be ready for the worse guys."

Getting his holly symbol prays in low voice.

Out of several alleys emerge six large animals. Teeth bared, they look ready to attack. The figure on the rooftop shivers and shakes, now growing and looking like the creatures. Thomas recognizes them as badgers! Which might mean that upon the rooftop would be............

Init for Robert: 1d20+3 = 8

Robert draws his rapier and dagger. He looks around to see if there is any higher ground where he can fight solidly, say a table or a firm barrel or a wide enough ledge.

Initiative for Thomas

As for actions, Thomas mutters, "Bloody hell..." before sheathing his swords. In case anyone thinks him crazy, he plans on drawing his pistol next round

13!

Marilee, who has been listening with faint incomprehension for some while, suddenly brightens up as trouble starts, hefting her sword and unlimbering her shield. Suddenly, with a wild cry she leaps towards the nearest badger, taking a ferocious swing at it!

Khalfani curses. Under normal circumstances, he might be able to persuade the badgers to leave, but the gnome senses that these creatures are being controlled by the werebadger. No fool, he positions himself behind his sturdier companions. "Strike the enemy above, if you can," he says. "He is the commander." Then he summons a veil of protection around himself.
