also remind there is a slight difference between fear and horror and the more dreaded madness check. With madness you don't get a bonus from your high wisdom. instead the modifier makes the DC more difficult if you have a high wisdom.

That having been said, in 3rd ed, all fear, horror, and madness checks are will saves. In the 3.5 phb, they're apparently retooled to match different saves depending on class... this has met with a mixed reception and is seem as being less straightforward than the original method.
