From the look of it, if we stay up by the gatehouse wall facing the courtyard (where we can't be seen), Leila can stealthily look in the gatehouse without losing her health - which I'd recommend before we commit to anything else.

Long experience has shown me that it never ends well when the Str 7 character tries to grab someone and run away. The NPCs are free and encouraged to try it, though.
