Well, since she has surprise, she will do a sneak attack on the nearest centipede in sight. If she has time to drop her pole, get a sling-stone ready, and shoot with a short range sneak attack, she will do that.
If she does not have time to drop the pole and shoot in one round, she will use the pole to whack-a-pede. Sneak attack in melee, then, if that is possible. Improvised weapon penalty, sure, but reach, right?
