==In [[Curse of Strahd]]==
In life, Khazan was an [[archmage]] hired by [[Strahd]] to help the construction of [[Castle Ravenloft]]. Following its completion, Khazan went to live on a small [[island]] on [[Lake Baratok]] and constructed a [[tower]] there. A causeway of [[earth]] and [[gravel]] connected his island to the [[Barovian]] mainland. As his health began to fall to age, Khazan discovered the [[secret]]s of becoming a [[lich]] at [[the Amber Temple]]. Later, he visited Castle Ravenloft to wrestle away lordship of the domain from Strahd, but the vampire lord instead convinced him to serve as [[advisor]]. Khazan split his time advising Strahd and at the Amber Temple. Khazan eventually attempted to escape Barovia by becoming a [[demilich]] and sending his consciousness beyond the veil. However, the effort failed and only resulted in Khazan's destruction.<ref name="Curse of Strahd p. 167">[[Curse of Strahd]] p. 167</ref>

Khazan's skeletal remains now lie in Crypt 15 of Castle Ravenloft. His [[skull]] contains several valuable [[gem]]s. Saying his name by the [[Pillarstone of Ravenloft]] causes a powerful magical staff to materialize, though the first time it is touched a powerful bolt of lightning strikes the one who touched it.<ref name="Curse of Strahd p. 89-90">[[Curse of Strahd]] p. 89-90</ref>

Following his demise, [[Van Richten's Tower|Khazan's tower]] was not used for many years, but eventually [[Rudolph van Richten]] took it over and used it as a base for operations in [[Barovia]] for a time before moving on to [[Vallaki]]. [[Ezmerelda d'Avenir]] has since taken to living there as she hunts for her teacher.<ref name="Curse of Strahd p. 167">[[Curse of Strahd]] p. 167</ref>

Rahadin is an [[NPC]] introduced in the [[5th Edition]] [[module]] [[Curse of Strahd]]. He is' [[Strahd]]'s [[chamberlain]] and a [[dusk elf]] [[traitor]] and [[collaborator]] with his people's enemy<ref name="Curse of Strahd p. 236-237">[[Curse of Strahd]] p. 236-237</ref>

==History==
Made an [[exile]] for refusing to bow to [[royalty]] he did not personally respect, Rahadin turned on his people and helped [[Barov von Zarovich]] put the royal line to the sword and take over the [[elven]] [[kingdom]]. Barov rewarded Rahadin with honorary membership to the [[Von Zarovich Family]], and later Strahd appointed him as chamberlain. After [[Patrina Velikovna]] came knocking on Strahd's door, she attempted to seduce and tempt him with dark knowledge of [[immortality]] at the [[Amber Temple]]. Rahadin belived Velikov to merely be manipulating Strahd and attempted to break them up. He was unsuccessful, but nonetheless [[Tatyana Federovna]] took Strahd's attention away from Patrina.<ref name="Curse of Strahd p. 236-237">[[Curse of Strahd]] p. 236-237</ref>

Strahd's [[transformation]] into a [[vampire]] didn't phase Rahadin. He remained ever [[loyal]], though once again Patrina came back to win Strahd's love, it was clear to Rahadin it was just for her own [[selfish]] needs. He thought she would share the same fate as Strahd's other brides: entertain him for a while but ultimately become thrown to the way and turned into a [[vampire spawn]]. He was surprised to see that his dusk elf kin stoned her to death before that happened. Rahadin served as Strahd's punisher to the dusk elf race, slaughtering all the female elves and slicing off [[Kasimir Velikov]]'s [[ear]]s.<ref>CoS p. 237</ref>

==In Curse of Strahd==
Rahadin remains ever [[loyal]] to Strahd. He may be encountered in [[Castle Ravenloft]]. He may be encountered randomly in the listed areas<ref>p. 51</ref>, in the Great Entry (K8)<ref>p. 55</ref>, or in his room (K72). He keeps a [[shadow demon]] in the latter area.<ref>p. 79</ref> Rahadin also may be encountered in the [[Amber Temple]], where he visits to pray for Strahd's release from his bindings as [[darklord]].<ref>p. 196</ref> If Strahd is ever destroyed, Rahadin seeks the [[player character]]s out thereafter, fighting to the end to avenge his master.<ref>p. 207</ref>

'''Anna''' was a [[reincarnation]] of [[Tatyana Federovna]], or rather, some fragment of her [[soul]] that escaped [[the Mists]] and wound up in [[Faerun]]. Her mind was not left intact, so she was eventually committed to the [[Asylum in Waterdeep]] an insane asylum. She remained like that for over a hundred years.<ref name="VotM p. l-16">VotM p. 1-16</ref>

In 1067 DR, Jander met and fell in love with, Anna on one of his visits to the asylum to feed upon. She was serene and kind, if mostly [[mute]]. On occasion, she would fly into a horrible frenzy to escape her confinement.<ref name="VotM p. l-16">VotM p. 1-16</ref> (Jander would later learn she was what [[Barovian]]s know as a [[Lost One]])<ref name="VotM p. 176">VotM p. 176</ref> Whatever her exact mental state, her malady was apparently caused by [[magic]], as she hand languished in the asylum for a hundred years. All Jander knew was her affliction had something to do with [[Barovia]].<ref name="VotM p. l-16">VotM p. 1-16</ref>

In the middle of winter some thirty years later<ref name="VotM p. 16">VotM p. 16</ref> (1098 by Dale Reckoning<ref name="Villain's Lorebook p. 36">[[Forgotten Realms Villain's Lorebook]] - p36</ref>), Anna fell under a seemingly incurable [[disease]] connected to her magical nature. Jander tried to turn her into one of his kind, but she instinctively refused and pushed him away. Following her [[death]], Jander flew into a horrible [[rage]] and [[murdered]] every person in the asylum. He vowed to the [[god]]s that he would find the cause of her suffering and make him pay. [[The Mists]] descended upon Waterdeep and enveloped him.<ref name="VotM p. 16-27">VotM p. 16-27</ref> The [[Dark Powers]] had responded to his vow by delivering him to the [[Land of Mists]].<ref name="Villain's Lorebook p. 36">[[Forgotten Realms Villain's Lorebook]] - p36</ref>

Within the Land of Mists, [[Dream Anna|a version of Anna]] [[haunted]] Jander's [[dream]]s, goading him to seek out and avenge her against the cause of her [[madness]]<ref>VotM p. 71-73, 94-95 are two examples</ref> . However, after failing to fully destroy Strahd, Jander realized how he had been [[manipulated]] by [[the Dark Powers]]. In perhaps the most critical moment in his war against the [[foreigner|foreign]] [[invader]]s, Strahd [[called]] the fiend [[Inajira]] in the hope of securing victory at the cost of his soul.<ref name="Gazetteer I p. 142>[[Gazetteer I]] p.142</ref> Strahd largely managed to escape the [[arcanaloth]]'s foul contract with the contract he made with Death that gave him eternal life, or [[undead|unlife]] as the case may be. :Stygian Inquirer: Strahd's ranged and melee attacks are wrong. He has a higher ranged than melee attack, but his Strength is greater than his Dexterity and he wields a magic weapon too. I have done the math the the attacks should look like this:

::Atk +20 melee (1d6+8 and energy drain, slam) or +25/+20/+15 melee (1d10+14, +4 bastard sword) or +19/+14/+9 ranged (1d8+6, +2 mighty composite longbow); I got these number via the following. The BAB for a Ftr 4/Nec 16 is 12/7/2. For the melee attack, you add +8 for STR mod, +4 for the bastard sword and +1 for weapon focus (bastard sword). For the ranged attack, you add +5 for DEX mod and +2 for the bow.
