Malocchio Aderre is one eighth Vistani by one of the parents of his maternal grandmother, Isabella Aderre. His maternal grandfather is Vlad Drakov. His mother is Gabrielle Aderre, who remains the darklord of Invidia even as the land is divided between the warring forces of her son and herself. His father is the Gentleman Caller.

The hunting of Vistani is the passion of Malocchio Aderre and there is no evidence that he draws a line at giomorgo ("half-vistani"), or even quarter-vistani, including his mother Gabrielle Aderre. No giomorgo is safe within Invidia or near its borders.

He is a Dukkar, a male Vistana with the Sight, prophesied to bring great evil to the Vistani people. He is imprisoned in the domain of Invidia and divides his time between Castle Loupet, the Citadel in Karina, and hunts.

He gave Novgor to Azrael Dak.

His first name is the same as the Southern Italian term for the "evil eye."

A reality wrinkle is the zone of planar disruption surrounding an outsider with the Good or Evil descriptor. The moral purity, in either extreme, of the outsider reacts to the planar fabric of the demiplane and creates a region similar to that of a small domain that moves with the creature. Within the wrinkle, a darklord's power over his or her own domain is usurped, including the ability to close the domain's border. A darklord is aware immediately of such a disruption of his or her domain.
<br />
<br />
The effects of the reality wrinkles created by Good and Evil outsiders differ. Evil outsiders' (fiends) reality wrinkles disrupt a darklord's control and immunity to powers checks. The reality wrinkles of Good outsiders (celestials) also disrupt the fabric of reality in Ravenloft, causing native inert materials to turn ghastly in appearance before fading back into the Mists. They also prevent natural healing in living creatures, though magical healing still works. A celestial can suppress their reality wrinkle as a free action.
<br \>
<br \>
Fiends can also perform power rituals to gain land-based powers at a cost. The ritual can only be performed once per domain regardless of success of failure, their reality wrinkle is immediately halved, and they gain corruption points that cause a percentage chance of future power rituals failing as well as an equal chance that any effect that would allow escape from the demiplane will fail. When a fiend has enough corruption points (21+) they lose their reality wrinkle, all power rituals automatically fail as well as any effect that could let them escape, and they become susceptible to powers checks as mortals are. Such is the cost of tying themselves to the land. Fiends automatically know how to perform power rituals.
<br />
<br />
Celestials gain no benefit from power rituals and still gain corruption points. They are also not immune to powers checks and any failed powers check instead adds to their corruption points until they lose their reality wrinkle completely. Like fiends, a celestial whose corruption points reach higher than 21 can never escape Ravenloft and is now affected by failed powers checks as mortals are.
The Holy Symbol of Ravenkind was created by the Most High Priest Kir of the Church of Andral in 350 BC. He died during its creation. A year later, when Strahd caused Barovia to become the first domain of Realms of Dread the Holy Symbol followed him. Being a vampire he could not touch so holy an object and it sat in Castle Ravenloft quietly until 499 BC. An elven vampire named Jander Sunstar, pursuing the one who had driven his love Anna insane, traveled with a priest and thief named Sasha and Leisl to Ravenloft and discovered the Holy Symbol, using it to put the vengeful ghost of Sergei von Zarovich to rest. They used it in their confrontation with Strahd as well. The two mortals couldn't overcome Strahd's powers and present the Holy Symbol, but Jander did despite the fact it would harm him as much as Strahd. The encounter forced Strahd into hibernation to heal from the wounds while the Sasha and Leisl escaped. Jander was lost for 200 years in the Mists. The Holy Symbol returns to its place in Castle Ravenloft until the year 740 BC.
During the Grand Conjunction a confluence of events sends adventurers, Azalin, and the arcanoloth Inajira back in time to 354 BC in a plot to change history. The Holy Symbol, as well as the Icon of Ravenloft, are restored to Castle Ravenloft. During these events the Holy Symbol is pressed against Inajira's Book of Keeping, destroying it and causing the Grand Conjunction to collapse as the deal Strahd made for victory in the final battle against the Tergs is undone. In the present the Holy Symbol and Icon alike disappear after the Grand Conjunction. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
<br />
The lawful good secret society known as the Keepers of the Black Feather seek the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind as the means to permanently destroying Strahd and have done so for centuries. They remain unaware the Holy Symbol has disappeared somewhere.
