Some say this fortress is hidden amongst the endless mountains to the North and West. Others say it must be somewhere along the misty borders to the East. Is there truly an ancient giant's stronghold in Mourning Pyre? A haven for the survivors against the living dead? Or is it just a cruel rumor, tricking people from their hiding places and out into the open, where the dead can find them? Few, if any, in Mourning Pyre truly know. ==Introduction==
Black pirate ships riding silently on the waves, strange wizards, priests worshiping otherworldly gods. . .

A dark domain ruled by two lords, joined together at the spine. . . One living, one undead. . .

This is Sunderheart.

There is no more mysterious port in all of Ravenloft than that of Sunderheart. It is feared and dreamed of by all who know its name. Many who come here never return.

add to me

History
Sunderheart was originally a city named Harrack Unarth, the shining capitol of the empire of Bael Turath. When Lady Ivania Dreygu and her lover Vorno Kahnebor married against the wishes of their warring families, they were given Harrack Unarth as reward for uniting (through marriage and murder) their two powerful houses. The reign of Ivania and Vorno ushered in an era of prosperity and decadence, especially in their bed chambers. They made a deal with a devil to make it last forever, but one day Ivania turned on Vorno, unleashing his inner evils. When she killed him the mists came to claim their land.

Great storms had torn at the city, and the Grimriver had flooded it's streets. Much of its population had either died in the storms, or fled. Those who remained stayed loyal to Ivania, though they rarely saw her after that. Vorno, they saw not at all. His tales were now told only in rumor.

After the storm had flooded the city, after the mists had cleared and the domain of Sunderheart had been formed, Lady Ivania Dreygu awoke from a long slumber with her dead husband suddenly conjoined to her back. Vorno Kahebor had risen from the grave, and was now fused with her spine as The Ghoul.

Geography
Sunderheart is a domain in the northeast of The Hub Cluster, where dark skies and dark waters keep most travelers far from shore. The City of Sunderheart sits between two high and misty mountains, protecting the city from any possible invasion by land. A river flows from between these two mountain and down the center of the city, flooding much of the ruins of the lower levels before finally flowing out into the sea.

The cliffs to the east, after many treacherous miles, eventually connect to the mountains of Giddim. High up in these mountains, there are tribes and villages of goblins and humans who live together in an unsteady peace.

Beneath the cliffs in the west of Sunderheart there is a secret pirate's cave, large enough to house three large ships at once. A dangerous tavern and a trading post for merchants can be found inside. Few maps mark the cave's true location, and those that do are highly sought after.

And there are more secrets than this hidden amongst the cliffs and mountains. . .
Introduction
The city of Chantil was peaceful and prosperous once, years ago, before the violence started. Now, like all the other cities in Chelleaux, it lies in the thrall of Mademoiselle Guillotine, and the masses who serve her.

Geography
Chantil is north of Sarnis, and west of the halfling valleys. It is smaller than Sarnis, but with its own magnificent architecture that makes Chantil the vision it is.

Chantil's City Hall is classically designed, with most of the local executions happening in front of it. The stage with the guillotine on it is now a permanent fixture. Across the street from capitol building is Le Theatre de Chantil, with Chantil's library and museum and the houses of Chantil's wealthiest citizens filling out the rest of this most affluent part of town. The Inn of Chelleaux is on this street, as is L'Hotel de Grace. The main road in this part of town is the Avenue de Blanc, with the intersecting Avenue de Rouge leading through to the poorer side of town.
On rare occasions though, dead giants have been seen roaming the land. . .
Mourning Pyre comes from the world of Eberron. It is loosely inspired by the fallen nation of Cyre, and its darklord given life by the Day of Mourning. Mourning Pyre has much of the magical technology of Eberron, but in the years since the Creeping Death rose much of it has fallen into disrepair.
Sunderheart is a domain in the northeast of The Hub Cluster, where grey dark skies and dark waters keep most travelers far from shore. The City of Sunderheart sits between two high and misty mountains, protecting the city from any possible invasion by land. A river flows from between these two mountain and down the center of the city, flooding much of the ruins of the lower levels.

There is no more mysterious port in all of Ravenloft than that of Sunderheart.

The cliffs to the east, after many treacherous miles, eventually connect to the mountains of Giddim. High up in these mountains, there are tribes and villages of goblins and humans who live together in an unsteady peace.

Beneath the cliffs in the west of Sunderheart is a secret pirate's cave, large enough to house three large ships at once. A dangerous tavern and a trading post for merchants can be found inside. Few maps mark the cave's true location, and those that do are highly sought after.
"Well, at least they don't call us Cheese Island!"

Milk Island, formally known as Cal Demos, is one of the smaller of the Farm Islands in the bay of Sunderheart. It is known and named for it's large number of dairy farms, and the milk and cheese they produce and distribute throughout the land.

The majority of the milk produced on Milk Island is traded throughout the Farm Islands or sold at the market in the city of Sunderheart as cheese. Because any food produced in Sunderheart bears the dark mystique and reputation of the realm, they are able so sell their cheeses for especially favorable prices to foreign merchants wishing to sell them as strange delicacies in the other domains.

The popularity of their product has allowed the people of Milk Island to live better lives than most in the farm islands, but life there is still hard, and the shadow of Sunderheart is ever present. The sign over the tavern at the island's port shows a cow with a mermaid's tail leaping from the sea. But it's eyes are distant, and the sign has faded from years of salt and storms.

Monsters still attack from the sea, and while infrequent, the possibility of a pirate raid is never far from thought.

Some farmers have also complained of werebats.

Geography
A dozen large farms stretch out over the small island, covering almost all of it, so that there are very few trees. There is no town or village on this island, only the port where they go to bring their harvest to market.
History
The cows have only been there for about forty years, but Cal Demos has been farmland for hundreds. Before that, nobody knows what it was used for. The castle on this island, the Tower of Cal Demos, is one of the oldest in Sunderheart. None remember it's original owners. Even amongst the island's inhabitants, it is considered far too elegant a structure for such an out-of-the-way island. It is also believed to be magical. There are extensive chambers beneath it.

Current Sketch
Fewer than 100 humans live on Milk Island. The island's governor, Nicholas Brandas, resides in the tower of the Tower of Cal Demos, where he spends every possible moment lost in his books. His daughter, Ankha Brandas, is the islands liaison with the court of Lady Ivania Dreygu. She has a sinister reputation amongst the people of the island.
Amongst the dozens of islands in the cold bay of Sunderheart, there are seven known as the farm islands. Some are large, some are small. The few who live there do what they can to farm the land for crops, most of which are sold in the capitol. All islands recognize the authority of the Lady Ivania Dreygu. Her winged undead are sometimes seen in the sky as reminders.
*Wave Island

Language & Culture
Most of the inhabitants of the farm islands speak Low Mordentish, while those with older ties to the domain speak the language of Nerath.

While travel between the islands can be difficult, there is still a good amount of interaction between them. Geography, trade, and a fear of Sunderheart have united the people of these islands as a single culture, and their small villages now have long histories together.

Every year the inhabitants the seven farm islands travel to Ivania's Island for a three-day festival celebrating the harvest and the gods. Most of the inhabitants of the island of Ban do not attend, as they worship a different god. The annual festival includes a sacrifice.
==Geography==

And there are more secrets than this hidden amongst the cliffs and mountains. . .
There are seven Farm Islands in the cold bay of Sunderheart, some large, some small. The people who live here do what they can to farm the land for crops usually sold in the city of Sunderheart.

Sunderheart is a domain in the northeast of The Hub Cluster, where dark skies and waters keep most travelers far from shore.

Gaston Rousseau, referred to as simply Rousseau by his friends, is a giant who resides in the domain of Chelleaux.

Introduction
In the city of Chantil, towards the far end of Avenue de Rouge, in the Inn of the Forgotten Truth, there resides a giant named Gaston Rousseau. Rousseau is a peaceful giant, forcefully peaceful, who has dedicated himself to a life of study. Religions, philosophies, histories, the sciences, Gaston Rousseau studies them all with a fierce determination towards bettering himself and broadening his mind. As a giant, he is not of the highest intelligence, but his dedication to his education has, over the years, helped him to become quite knowledgable, and wise.

History
Rousseau became a permanent resident of the Inn of the Forgotten Truth several years ago when he saved the lives of the children of an innkeeper named Jaque Delan. Jaque and his children, Marie and Fabio, had been walking back to Chantil from Sarnis when they were set upon by bandits, soldiers who had gone to crime. The bandits would have killed them all were it not for the giant.

Rousseau had been living in the forest until then, in a small shack he had made from trees. When the innkeeper saw this, he insisted the lonely giant come to live with them at their inn in Chantil. The stables at the Inn of the Forgotten Truth were given to the giant to serve as his living quarters. And an extra large seat was made for him so that he could sit and dine, or drink coffee, outside on the inn's patio. Lacking any memories of his true identity, the giant eventually started going by the name of Gaston Rousseau.

Current Sketch
Several years have passed since then. Marie and Fabio, have taken over the inn after the death of their father, and both are still very fond of the giant.

As the only known giant in Chelleaux, Rousseau has gained a bit of fame in the domain. Rousseau is not a fan of excess attention, but he has made many friends as a result. Several students from the university frequently bring the giant books to add to his collection, and outside of Marie Delan and Fabio Delan, it is these students who are his closest friends.

There are many students though who feel anger at the giant for not joining with the various rebellions to help over through the aristocrats. The aristocrats simultaneously blame Rousseau for not striking back at the rebels, for the good of Chelleaux. All sides want to use him as a weapon against the others, but Rousseau wants only peace. He wants only to study his books, and see that his friends are unharmed. The deaths of the bandits from whom he rescued Marie and Fabio still weighs on his soul, and he does not wish to be a violent creature. He wants no part in the war.

When the battles reach Chantil though, all sides are careful not to disturb the giant. For when the battle gets close enough to the inn to anger Rousseau, to actually cause him to have to put down his books and rise from his chair, all combat in the area immediately ceases. And the crowd goes silent. In all the armies and rebel groups in Chelleaux, there none who would dare to engage Rousseau in combat, none who could even meet his glare as he silently dares them to continue their attack. For this reason, the neighborhood around the Inn of the Forgotten Truth is one of the most untouched by the war in all of Chelleaux.

Appearance
Many designers in Chelleaux have sewn clothes for this giant. When one designer, a friend of Rousseau's in Chantil, designed an outfit for him as a gift, a second designer made him one out of competition. Suddenly, designers from all across Chelleaux were creating the highest possible fashions for him to wear. Before he knew it, Rousseau had one of the most elaborate wardrobes in all the domain.
The dead rule the land now known as "Mourning Pyre". A darkness has spread across its borders so all that die rise as the walking dead, and all killed by the zombies rise as the same. The few survivors struggle to survive amid the ruins of their once grand civilization.
Once lush farmland with increasing urbanization, the fields of Mourning Pyre have gone fallow while the cities fall into ruin. The land is isolated: mountains block the West while the Mists surround the North and East and much of the South. The seas also border the South, but are known for their violent storms that make sailing treacherous.

*In Mourning Pyre, there is a tale that is sometimes told of a forgotten giant's stronghold, where the giants still live, who's walls have never been breached by the dead. On rare occasions though, dead giants have been seen roaming the land. . .
Mourning Pyre has much of the magical technology of Eberron, but in the years since the Creeping Death rose much of it has fallen into disrepair.

Sometimes, late a night, a man will approach you from the shadows. This man is holding his head under his arm, but the eyes are very much alive. This man wants to talk to you. . .

History
Renoir was a stage magician and entertainer known for his performances throughout Chelleaux. His acts frequently made use of a large guillotine, which he would use to fake the beheadings of himself and of members of his audience. It all doubled as political commentary, getting people to resist the bloodlust that had gripped the land. Perhaps his performances offended Mademoiselle Guillotine, for while Renoir's own guillotine was one of harmless novelty, designed for his show, there came a day that it actually worked. Dark clouds had filled the sky, and thunder struck as his head hit the stage. His appearances are now far less frequent, though they are no less spectacular. Instead of standing upon the stage, Renoir is seen now only in the shadows, his head tucked under his arm, whispering of the murders you should be committing. . .

Appearance
As a performer, Renoir is always seen in the finest garments possible, always formal, and usually preferring darker colors.

Renoir has slicked-back black hair, and always wears a distant smile.

FoS-canon

The blades of Mademoiselle Guillotine slice through the necks of the people of Chelleaux, taking the lives of young and old, rich and poor alike. Heads fall, and the masses cheer. But sometimes, with a flick of a sword, these excited cheers will turn to rage, as the Blood Red Pimpernel frees the condemned from the mouth of the darklord. The Blood Red Pimpernel fights and schemes to stop the madness of the realm, and to free it's people from the guillotine's cravings. There are many in Chelleaux who want the Pimpernel dead.

History
There have been several Blood Red Pimpernels over the years. The name of the original is lost to history. He died long ago, in a burning building, trapped there by the mob who had set it aflame. Only the second Blood Red Pimpernel, Sir Percy de Orczy, knew the first's true identity. Sir Percy died in 742, in the mouth of the guillotine. His head is said to lie in the catacombs beneath Sarnis.

The third Blood Red Pimpernel was a woman named Marguerite Chauvelin. A bold woman, quick with her blade and quick with a smile. Her mother had been one of Sir Percy's lovers. She dawned the hood of the Pimpernel in 750. Marguerite fought against the madness of Chelleaux for years, but disappeared one day, never to be seen again.

The current Blood Red Pimpernel is the nephew of Marguerite, the foppish aristocrat Fabio Robespierre. It was the mystery of his aunt's disappearance that lead him to discover the secret of the Pimpernels, and to take on the identity himself.

Appearance
A dark red hood hides the identity of the Blood Red Pimpernel, on those rare occasions when the hero must appear in public. A blood red hood and cape over the most fashionable of formal wear available in Chelleaux. Fashionable to the point of being lacy. Some say the color of the hood is to match the color of the flowers which the Pimpernel leaves behind as his calling card. Others say the hood was made from a blood-soaked sack used to carry heads from the guillotine.
In narrative conflict there is man versus man, man versus himself, and man versus nature. Few domains embody the last like Fallaya Basin, where the very land is the enemy.
Temporal Ruler
There is no ruler of the Basin as a whole, though some within the Basin have carved out territories that they control:

*A secret society within Fallaya of druids that seek to find the key to controlling the Swamp Shambler.
*Beauregard DuBlon, a were-crocodile thug that prowls the waterways and roads
*Djorji Herne, a darkling alchemist cursed to transform into a heron during the day and is a man every evening until sunrise. He searches for a cure for his affliction, believing the Shambler can lead him to the natural ingredients needed to make him fully human again.
*"Mayor" Redd rules the criminal haven of Flood Town unopposed.
*The Golden Hand is a "finder's shop" based in Fallaya run by a curious retired gnome pirate, Johnny Beetlefoot, who claims that they can and will find anything, if the fee is right.
*Amongst the many inbred clans throughout Fallaya Basin are those claiming that the reason for their unnaturally familial ways is to preserve a pure, sacred, royal bloodline, thousands of years old. Several different families claim to be maintaining the same bloodline, making them heirs to the kingdom, but whether or not this kingdom ever even existed, nobody knows. There are, however, a trio of gentlemen who have been spotted searching the Fallaya Basin swamps on horseback, trying to find the inheritors of this royal bloodline. Their leader, Stefan le Prince, wishes to marry his daughter Claudia to the truest male heir, so that he might rule through their child. If female member of the true royal clan is found, Stefan plans to marry her himself.
* The Swamp Shambler searches for a woman in a vague understanding of marriage. Periodically women are abducted from the roads and waterways, and sometimes from the streets of Fallaya itself, to be lost within the swamps forever, or even worse, to become the Shambler's bride. Young women are warned to never sing as they pass between Fallaya and other towns for fear the Shambler will hear.

* Rumor has it there is a music box, lost somewhere within the moors of the Basic, that can control the Swamp Shambler itself.

* A collector from the Core of fine art has heard rumor of many lost pieces of art in Flood Town and is willing to pay heavily for these objects to be transported back, if they do exist.

* "Mayor" Redd is growing restless with his town of criminals, and has his sights set on Fallaya. He wants to sink it as well, and is looking to find a way to anger the Swamp Shambler enough to do it for him.
