At some point later, [[Byron Ashington-Welles]], of distant relation to the Ashingtons of the manor, attempted to redeem the Ashington name by turning the manor into a [[Hospice of Hala]]. Ashington-Welles operated [[the Blessed Hall of Hala|this Blessed Hall of Hala]] for 13 years and helped innumerable people. For a time, the Ashington name was once again seen in a better light. However, the tragedy of the manor repeated itself as Ashington-Welles master-at-arms, [[Gavel]], went on a killing spree on the manor grounds. As before, Maekon was there to push things to the breaking point<ref>p. 65, 73</ref>

After the hospice massacre, Ashington Manor fell into periods of disuse and attempted revitalization for varying purposes- though none by the Ashingtons themselves. Eventually, fire consumed much of the manor, leaving it in [[ruins]] to be occupied by wild creatures and the most depraved or desperate [[bandit]]s<ref>p.65-68</ref>.
