The Angels were once kidnapped women taken from the streets of England. Although Robarts had "benign" (if truly mad and grandiose) purposes for them, Trueblood hoped to use them as weapons to invade and conquer realms beyond the Mists, perhaps even heaven. He sent them out to attack St. Agnes and wipe out its people as a test run for invading other realms. However, when he was defeated, they were temporarily freed of his control. One of them begged Sophie Huxley to order them to destroy themselves, and she reluctantly ordered them to fly out to sea and drown themselves. However, the Mists intervened and engulfed them, taking them back to Bryani-House-of-the-Mists, where they remain watching over Dr. Robarts. The Angels were once kidnapped women taken from the streets of England.
