However, his mentor and close friend [[Erik Vegardsen]], had been secretly transformed into one of the [[lebendtod]]. When Johann and Erik were trapping in [[the Zaubereiwald]], Erik attacked Johann. Johann barely fended Erik off, suffering a near death experience for it. Traumatized and crazed from [[blood]] loss, Johann rushed to the [[boat]] they had taken to the woods and set sail ~~out~~.
