Dnar River

The Dnar River and the Vaughn Dnar River merge to form the the Sydligdnar ("South Dnar River"), the broadest and deepest river in Nova Vaasa. For its part, the Dnar has as its source the meltwaters of Mount Nyid, the tallest mountain in the Land of Mists, well to the north, in the southeastern Mountains of Misery. The river flows down out of Darkon and into Nova Vaasa and joins with the Vaughn Dnar River opposite Kantora, becoming the Sydligdnar. The Sydligdnar drains into the Nocturnal Sea just north of Egertus beside the port of Guldstrand Beach via the Katsmund Canyon. The Sydligdnar and the Dnar are the southern and western limit respectively of the Ehrendton. Stonegard, the fortified seat of the Bolshnik family, sits on the west bank of the Dnar River and the north bank of the Vaughn Dnar River, facing Kantora to the south and the Ehrendton to the east.

The Sydligdnar ("South Dnar River") is navigable, although not without difficulty in both directions owing to its current, with small ships between the Nocturnal Sea and the docks at Kantora. With the right winds, the Sydligdnar can be sailed. Otherwise it must be rowed. The Vaughn Dnar and the Dnar are too deep to be forded as they merge to form the Sydligdnar. Bridges consistent with small ships pose a manifest engineering problem, but none are mentioned, so ferry service for river crossings would make sense. A ferry service is known to exist between Kantora and Guldstrand Beach.

The Dnar River should have conditions favourable to navigation to the Darkonese frontier and perhaps well into Darkon. It may, however, be more seasonal in its flow than the Vaughn Dnar River.

The Dnar is a critical source of water for crops, humans, domestic animals, and beasts. Farmland probably stretches back from its banks from its termination in the Vaughn Dnar to the edge of the Darkonese frontier. The farms are heavily taxed by the Bolshniks. The Dnar River belongs to the Heartland Duchy of the Bolshnik family.
