Re: Boyars of Barovia
The reference in Gaz I, about the various Counts trysts with peasant women, are (IMO) about Tatyanas. We see Strahd courting peasant women (Tatyanas). I am no fond of blue-bloods and all but I was shocked to see him publicly show interest on a "plebeian" with red head. That thing ...

Re: Pathfinder v 5e
While basic D&D books are free, the omission of the optional rule for feats is jarring. This is IMO the most important part missing in the free PDFs. What it is: at certain levels you can get a +2 to an ability, +1 to 2 abilities or a feat (an ability can go up to 20). Feats are now mega-feats ...

Re: What have you done with canon darklords?
I was having similar ideas about a more unified/world-like Ravenloft. I'd love to hear more about your ideas on what you're doing with the setting. well, what started out as an attempt to make a more unified RL with a much longer real history (as opposed to false history) turned into a monster in i...

Re: Pathfinder v 5e
I know pretty much nothing about 5e. This thread is the first thing I've read about it. Can you give me more details about what's different between it and 3.5 (or True20)? Is there an SRD somewhere?

Re: Tristen ApBlanc; Vampyre or Dhampir?
That vampires can't breed is modern vampire mythology. In the old days, vampires could supposedly move to another village, marry and have children; it seems to indicate that there was a belief that the more a vampire fed, the more human it became. In fact, sometimes it was thought a male vampire cam...

Re: What have you done with canon darklords?
I see what you mean about her refusing to see the truth, but I still don't like the active role the DPs seem to be taking in her case. Also, it's kind of unnecessary. Elena is perfectly capable of find reasons to keep persecuting people without any particular ability of hers being perverted. I think...

Re: What have you done with canon darklords?
Of course Elena chooses to be evil. That's pretty obvious. I think you guys have missed the parent post's point. The DPs are actively deceiving Elena by twisting her detect evil power. We're told over and over that they don't do that. They're not supposed to act, only react. I think that sounds more...

Re: Quoth the Raven # 21
I loved this issue. My favorite parts were the examination of Barovian culture and the expanded description of Pharazia. Finally, a developed Middle Eastern culture for RL! However, I have a question.
Kamarn-Quse? I've never heard of this place.

I need curse suggestions for home-brewed DLs
A darklord without a curse is no darklord at all. Unfortunately, I've sort of hit a wall; coming up with DLs is often easy enough, but giving them appropriate curses isn't. So I though I'd ask you guys for ideas I can st-er, incorporate into my campaign. I don't need stats, btw, just ideas. I don't ...

Re: WORLDS OF RAVENLOFT: NOW AVAILABLE
Awesome work! :D The cultural analogues are fairly obvious with some of the domains but not all of them. At a guess, I would say Dorjiloka = Tibet, Kungthrom = Thailand, Igif Rabi-i = Phillipines and Ukhu Pacha = Peru. I'm not so sure about Chonyo Egurimja, Cabo Caridad or Ixcapa. Could you tell us?...

Re: A New Domain
So many real place names, fantasy versions of real cultures or nations w/o name changes, and so much real geography makes it feel much less like part of Ravenloft than like an obvious 'fantasy-historical- Near East, IMO. [snip] But I love the source material you are using. Doesn't feel very 'Ravenl...

Re: Darklords, Domains, and Canon
I would caution that anytime something happens in an adventure due to the direct intervention of the Mists or the Dark Powers, it's perfectly accurate to scratch out "the Mists" or "the Dark Powers" and replace it with "'cause the GM sez so." Were I a player in an adve...
