How do you get your characters involved?

I've recently been looking over some of my past campaigns/senarios and it's caused me to wonder how some of the rest of those who run games on this board get their characters involved in their camapigns, especially the very first adventure when the PC's first meet. Personally, I've tried to stay awa...

Very nice Jennifer! I like the way you invovled the PC's in a plot that was not obviously supernatural at first. It's something I've tried, but have not successfully accomplished with my current group. They are a bit to strait forward for some of the more suttle aspects fo the setting.

Perhaps, the SC´s are on a classical treasure-hunt (Indiana Jones greets), or they optain a piece of the treasure in a strange antiquities-shop or the Black-Pearl still haunts the carribean sea (because the whole story ended slightly different on gothic earth).... The Indiana Jones/Pirates combiant...

Pirates of the Caribean in Gothic Earth?

I know that there is already a thread about the movies is anoeher second of the forum, but my quested is a little more focused on it's use in Gothic Earth. I'm curious if anyone has used any theme related to the two Pirates movies as plot lines for Gothic Earth. The second movies seems to have less ...

Thanks for the heads up Lord Cyclohexane. The book would have gone unnoticed by me if it wasn't for your post. Now it will be something I'll have to look into.

Standard monsters in Gothic Earth

I'm curious what monsters from the regular D&D game have been used in MotRD advenures and how they were used. My very first MotRD senario involved an scientific experiment that had gone wrong resulting in the creation of a Gibbering Mouther. The experiment itself was an attempt at sharing knowle...

Thought I'd add something to the conversation. Read 'The Devil in the White City" for a better description of Holmes. Holmes is definitely an interesing historical figure, especially given the story of his curse of vengence that plagued the headlines for years following his execution. I consid...

I still say this is one of MOTRDs biggest drawbacks. When your playing on set timeline changing anything big messes up the entire setting. The PC can have all the adventure they want on the Titanic but if they try to save it from sinking the DM either has to Nix the idea (and be acussed of hamperin...

If anyone is interested here is a link to the site that contains the maps. You need an active library card number to access the maps and it takes a little bit of navigating of the site to find them, but once you do your can access each city via the county it is located in. http://www.oplin.lib.oh.us...

MotRD Map Resource

I don't know how much this will help anyone outside the state of Ohio, but I just learned that digitized copies of D.A. Sanborn's Fire Insurance maps are avaible for download (for personal use) for anyone with a library card from an Ohio Library. Evidently this is something that was started by the L...

Extremely specialized characters should be steered towards prestige classes - which should also eb able to cover multiple themes. EX - one prestige class for "monster hunters" rather than a unique PR for lycanthrope hunter, vampire hunter, witch hunter, ect... Just as the Undead Hunter an...

Oke-doke, 1) I would argue that the idea of class-kits has to go immediatly. Classes should cover multiple "themes" allowing some varriation between characters of the same class. After looking through the official MotRD d20 rules, I think that the could easily incorporate all the subclass...

Ruleswise, I wasn't too happy with the rules for guns. Maybe we could decide on THE gun system for MotRD, instead of having to flip through numerous different sources (Dragon Magazine, MotRD Errata, D20 Modern, etc...) I'm curious what system most of us use for firearm combat in our MotRD Campaigns...

Oke-doke, but what does the fam community think would be a sutiable alternative to the dreaded MotRD3? 1) I would argue that the idea of class-kits has to go immediatly. Classes should cover multiple "themes" allowing some varriation between characters of the same class. I agree here, the...

I see one of the greatest flaws that held the D20 MotRD back was an attempt to create rules that were compatable with Living Death rules that had been put toghter by RPGA. The Living Death have always reminded me of a very quick conversion from 2nd edition to 3rd edition rather than a well through o...
