Re: Alain Alone-OOC
Yes he will wait until at least 2 are in range of the 15 foot cone and blast them with it . If he can he will hit them with it so that are at the end of the cone so no need for Defensive Cast needed if that is possible . As posted earlier go head and roll damage for it and such . I the mean time he will be looking for then next guy in the chain of the command if someone else seems to be taking charge in the absence of thee apparent leader . Alain will be going for that guy next . His plan is that he will go down the leadership ladder until the bandits get the Idea that it is not good idea any more to attack his traveling party .

Alain may go. The two guys are all up in his grill. Melee range. Be warned about AoOs for various actions.

Since I know his tactics, I may simply roll through a few rounds, and post the overall resulsts. Faster that way. I'll stop to allow him to shift tack if he starts taking a lot of damage or gets cornered.
Without a map, this is probably the easiet way to handle it.

A few sleight of hand checks : 29 and 27 + or minus depending on the object . He will carry a dagger openly on him to use as tool if at all possible .

Re: Alain Alone-OOC
I have added a new chapter/quest for your PC, based on our discussion, Skybolt.
Alain's investigations of the strange markings have brought him into contact with a certain veiled seer who pays not only in coin but in the promise of teaching deeper mysteries of magic.
Payment for the first job is 8 gold coins, 5 silver coins, and a cantrip scroll. He may take either the scroll or the money now, not both. The veiled one hints at greater rewards for future tasks completed.
Alain has no current debts, having paid off his landlord a few days in advance, using money gained from a previous, mundane job (repo of a stolen goblet, snooping on a philandering merchant for a jealous wife, or whatever you like).
His current mental state is such that he sincerely believes himself to be a native of Darkon. Cirdan and the bag of holding mean nothing to him; he just recalls a velvet sack snatched by a half-elf thief, a couple of months back. No great loss.
He probably has no reason to leave the kingdom, although no doubt one day his travels will again take him out of the realm...
He still has that horse; stabling fees are paid up through today and his saddlebags contain water and fodder.

Re: Alain Alone-OOC
Would it have been possible for Alain in his time searching Darkon to have found some Cure light Wound Potions for sale, since this Realm of Ravenloft is more like GreyHawk so would have possible sellers of such here . Since he used up the only Curing potion he had from the robe, and has no other Healing resources for him to use .

Yes, he can buy one at 150% of the cost listed in the PHB.
If he can afford more than one, go ahead and buy more than one if you like.
