While anything else under another's curse may seem like a welcome reprieve or better (switch with Strahd? Chase a pretty tart every 50 years? OK!), but one of the worst ones for anyone would be to switch with Wilfred Godefroy (need I elaborate?), but if the darklord also comes with their powers and abilities then Strahd or Azalin could be powerful enough to challenge the house. Drakov would be dangerous with Strahd as Strahd can lead a military campaign effectively and Darkon is right there. Von Kharov would love to switch it up in Dementlieu and the Bluetspur God-brain with anyone mobile. It looks like it would be the better end for one and not the other. I dunno, kind of turning into a rant on my part now...

I've always thought (from that short story) that Godefroy corresponds and works with various evil entities across the Core. Why does he do this? What is he trying to get? What is he providing in return?

These are the questions that might keep me up at night if I played Ravenloft anymore.

How about this: the reincarnation of Tatyana (whom the pc's may or may not know already) is in the company and on the operating table of Victor Mordenheim! Strahd finds out and sends word to Mordenheim about the woman(aka ruthless assassins) but they never return.

Thwarted he sends the party of adventurers to snatch his beloved "daughter" from the hands of a madman. The party succeededs but turn against the vile count when they learn his true identity!

The only issue is Strahd isn't the only one who's taken an interest in the woman....Adam!

That is a good twist on a seasoned group too familiar with Strahd and his antics, but best for a party that is unfamiliar with Barovia. In the '90s when I didn't know any better, I had my group going into Castle Ravenloft so much they could tell me exactly where to go, what to open, and the trigger mechanism for Strahd's treasury. Without a map! But even with a group on the know of Strahd could still be in disguise. I used Lord Vasili von Holz and the group was just as scared as if it were Strahd (too easy). They never did find out (and that is fine by me). Trying to think, what other Tatyana-Darklord plots could there be? She could be a incarnated vistani (or half-vistani) captured in Invidia and about to be put to the stake as Barovian armies invade!

Bluebeard would be another good one. As would a seasonal bride of Urik von Kharkov. Strahd would be fuming over that. Either one actually. He's clever enough though to get the party to investigate, challenge and overcome: without ever speaking to them. Strahd is a perfect puppet master like that.

What about Tatyana being targeted by the Phantom Lover posing as some incarnation of Sergei?

What if a darklord or some other power found a way to create a false Tatyana in order to keep Strahd distracted?

Oh man either one of those are good. Maybe Azalin could clones Tatyana. When he feels like being a prick: send Strahd animated parts of her body. Or a Tatyana Zombie Golem.

That would be really confusing and slightly more disturbing to see a zombie golem comprised of just one person but TONS of parts and like six faces.

And that's a GREAT user pic Hazgarn

Wow, this thread took a turn from dynamic duos to, "Hey, there's Strahd; let's get him!"

Moving back to the idea of collaboration (and my fixation on Toben)... We all know Strahd hates Azalin. We all know Toben fears Azalin. It's an odd couple, but I'm sure there are some frightening ways to make that tag-team work.

(Although, in light of the above, I'm also now picturing a Toben-infected Tatyana-zombie, because Toben would never be able to resist the lulz.)

I thought there was something stated somewhere that Toben stays out of Darkon because he knows he'll fall victim to Azalin's automatic undead control there.

Azalin's network extends far enough outside of Darkon that Toben wouldn't need to cross the border to try and screw with him.

Maybe Alfred Timothy's agents could scoop up the earthly remains of Casimir, apparent son of Harkon Lukas, who turned out to be a werewolf and not a wolfwere after all.

Having his Wolf God reanimate Casimir to a bleak existence with only revenge on his supposed father on his mind, to Alfred's great delight.

( I really liked the Casimir character when I read the Heart of Midnight novel )

Oooo, this seems fantastic. Some kind of ... zombie Werewolf running amok in Kartakass. I'm a fan of this (especially because I'm just a fan in general of Kartakass getting more stuff going on it it).

:)

And seeing as battling wolfweres would take a heavy physical toll on Casimir's corporeal remains he might have to return to Alfred quite frequently to replenish his torn and ripped undead carcass through the power of the Wolf God.

Imagine the sight of a mangled werewolf zombie, bits dropping off as it goes, lumbering back towards Verbrek...
