To be honest i don't see any poulation of lythari in Ravenloft at all. Maybe a lone NPC similar to Jander Sunstar.

I'll have to check up the 3E lythari in Monsters of Faerun or Races of Faerun and see how it would work. I had a halfelf PC infected with normal werewolf lycanthropy (afaik) and wondered if he should seek out a lythari to get rid of the evil side of it all. Unfortunately the game dwindled away.

Technically in 3E half-elves are considered elves so the template (if it is indeed one) could be applied to one.

Elven Blood: For all effects related to race, a half-elf is considered an elf.

I chuckled pretty hard at that.

As for multiple lycanthropic infections, I'd say for sanity's sake that a single lycanthropic infection should protect from all others, like a vaccine. Maybe there is a good-aligned drow weredolphin werewolf werefly out there somewhere, but not in my campaign.

There is actually a feat for an additional familiar each time you take it. I don't have my computer in front of me to see which book/magazine it was in, but I know it exists.

Shapechangers are usually immune to effect which fprce them to take other forms orbind them in other forms; Basically, a Werebeast infected by another strain of Lychanthropy would simply transform in its regular formthe first time the new curse trigger, and then retain it's normal characteristichs. I might allow some cosmetic changes in the animal forms.

Superorganisms. Eusocial organisms, honey bees included, can be considered superorganisms (the colony itself functions like a single organism). When considering a honey bee colony as a superorganism, each bee within the colony can be likened to a cell within an animal. Also this applies to colonial organisms in general, my favourite familiar is a sponge...

I agree or else instead of a lycanthrope you would have a mongrelman 8)
Lycanthropy is the curse and not a disease so while for example, a strain is a genetic variant or subtype of a microorganism, a "flu strain" is a certain biological form of the influenza or "flu" virus and so you can have a flu while being immune to another virus, this does not apply in lycanthropic phenotype's. :renier:

Also adventurer A should be more careful, it's good that he/she became a werewolf first and killed the progenitor or else he/she would be staying longer in that sewer or would be a minion of Von Kharkov in the end.

Also speaking of that if all lycanthropic variants applied that would mean tat if the different lycanthropic progenitor's had power over their infected victims then the ad
venturer would be pawn of all different master's and this would make the minion unreliable and useless.

In my mind since especially natural lycanthropes have heightened senses of smell (for non bird lycanthropes at least) they can also detect that something is off to another lycanthrope in human form. So for instance wererats would prefer to kill a werewolf character in their turf or at least try to control the character through other mens (blackmail, threatening a loved one, etc.)

I found the answer in Van Richten's guide to Werebeast p.65 (not he Compedium the Guide)

The unfortunate person to be infected transforms into the last phenotype of multiple infections, but possibly more triggers, if they were acquired before the victim's first transfiguration. And what if the victim is infected after it's first transfiguration? Once I deemed such multiple infections impossible. In the overwhelming majority of cases, an infected lycanthrope simply cannot acquire another version of lycanthropy after the beast within has been unleashed. I have recently encountered an exception, however. The unfortunate involved was first attacked by a werewolf, and he became a wolf at the next full moon. Thereafter, he acquired a second infection from a wereboar, with the equinox as his trigger condition. The victim responded to that trigger too, becoming a boar, which was subsequently slain with an oaken spear. Note that an individual infected multiple times need only be cured once to be free of lycanthropy.

Good on Van Richten. Glad we have an answer!
