What darklord are you?

Post by TheArcaneWeirdo »

Is there a darklord you find disturbingly relatable?
Like, 'this is me if I was evil', 'this is me if I had more power and less self awareness', 'this is me it I let my worst sides get out of hand'?
I get this is a very personal and very scary question, but I think part of the reason we indulge in horror fiction is to explore our own mental 'shadows'.

That's how I feel about Ivan Dilisnya, for example. He's both smart and childish in a way that lets each of those traits boost the other, spontaneous about his own ideas but a control freak whenever others are involved, has a lot of weird but not necessarily harmful interests and preferences, and his main motivation for evil is that he has a specific fantasy about how things should be, and if it doesn't happen exactly as he imagined it he goes bonkers. It's all things I can identify with. I'm reading Gaz 4 now, and, like... I want to break into the stage mid show and shout at the actors that they're doing it wrong all the time, that's the reason I no longer watch theatrical or cinematic adaptations of books I've read. I will build a balcony with view to the Shadow Rift if I had the money and if the Shadow RIft was real, cause why not?! It's the coolest thing ever! And yes, taking away my sense of taste would be a pretty good way to torture me (Though preventing me from reading books would be a much better one).
This is even more pronounced in the VGRtR version of him. It's easy to laugh at a villain who's obssessed with creating magical toys, but come on. We're DND players, we invest a ridiculous amount of time into creating and playing complex games of make~belief. What high horse do we have to climb on?
I feel like the difference between us is that I'm very self~aware, I have a serious side too, I try very hard to become more flexible and give other people the freedoms I want for myself, and I understand the world doesn't revolve around my fantasies ~ except from when I forget it, and then I feel really pathetic.

What about you?
