Paridon actually might be a really good choice for Lovecraftian horror. The city is filled with dopplegangers, and the sewers crawl with insectoid horrors that occasionally sneak free. So in addition to inventing a Cthulhu-esque secret society, you could have fun with placing shapechangers in key positions (possibly one of them even created the society for some twisted purpose?) and having horrible crawling monsters emerge from the sewers on a regular basis. (Although you could get a similar effect from Dementlieu, which has lots of mind control, monsters lurking in the ocean, and mind-controlling monsters lurking in the ocean . . .Bloody Morgan wrote:
If you prefer your inhuman to be plasmic and lovecraftian - kinda like the Vampire World books.... hmm. Bluetspur is the obvious choice, but it's a: not detailed in any 3rd or 3.5 Edition books, and b: all you can really do is fight illithiads or be enslaved there. If you like the Lumley approach, I'd recomend a modern domain such as Dementliu or Lamordia - or even the doppleganger-plagued Pardion - and have an "enlightened" secret society who are actually controlled by beings from Bluetspur. There's a cult mentioned in Forgotten Lore who might fit this, but it's been a while since I read it. Will check tonight for you.

I'd agree with using Paridon if you're going Lovecraft, the fact that it's a more 'civilised' area and more man made than other areas adds somthing to the fear and the sheer 'epicness' of creatures of that magnitude.
Really though whats needed for RL is a good imagination, mood and thoughtfulness. Although the players often make or break RL games.

Thanks for all the advise. Looks like I'll start playing early in 06.
Don't forget to read reviews to correct a few heresy, err, a few things in your copy of the RL PHB 3.5
