Silver Anniversary I6/house of Strahd -- Poster map?

Post by Gonzoron of the FoS »

I've finally got around to reading the big granddaddy of them all, I6. Now I'm comparing to my Silver anniversary reprint version and looking for differences.

In the description of the blood of the vine inn, it says there's a map on the poster map. Similarly, for the burgomaster's house, it says a map can be found on the insert.

I don't see any such insert. There's just the inside cover map and the insert with the town map and lower castle levels, just like in the original.

Did the silver anniversary edition come with a poster map? (perhaps mine is missing) or was this something they planned to add and didn't? Or was it something in House of Strahd that they got rid of for this edition? anyone know?

Well, rats, I see that now too. My Silver Anniversary I6 didn't come with a poster either (bought just the module on Ebay, not the complete box set). House of Strahd does have maps of both the burgomaster's house & the village temple, on the inside module cover. I'd guess that they used the same maps on that missing Silver poster.
I only wish I had retired sooner!

I looked up mine, which comes out of a shrinkwrapped Anniversary set and it does have on map insert with: Map1 Lands of Barovia in color and Maps 3,4,11,12 on the backside in blue and black. The other maps are on the inside of the cover.

But then the Silver Anniversary reprints the 1E original I6 module and not House of Strahd.

To add to the confusion there's also 2nd Edition reprint available to RPGA members: http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/ModPages/RPGA2.html

Thanks Giamarga, we have the same insert (well, at least I do, don't know about Catman) but there's nothing with the burgomasters house, the temple, or the inn. So that probably means it was never there. They probably planned to include it, decided not to, and forgot to change the text.

But I believe you are mistaken when you said The Silver Anniversary reprint is I6, not HoS. It says in the introduction that it includes the updates from House of Strahd, plus updates from Domains of Dread. It does have the "Strahd's Opportunity" text that I believe was added in HoS, and the stats are all 2e, not 1e. There's also some replaced creatures (like the red dragon statues becoming gargoyle golems, and the giant spiders becoming Malefic Melds) and names for NPCs that didn't have them before (like the witches), and of course Strahd's powers and spells got an update.

I don't have HoS, but the SA version is definately very different from I6. Sadly, it seems I have to get HoS now as well, to get the extra maps. (And I thought I heard it contains 2 versions of Strahd stats, too...)

Heh... ok, it seems I'm mistaken. I see now you were speaking of a boxed set. The one Catman and I have is the RPGA one you linked to. It's also labelled "Silver Anniversary". I guess this boxed set one is I6, but the RPGA one is HoS (plus more?). So we still don't know if the RPGA one Catman and I have is supposed to have the town map. :/
