My feeling on it is that Paridon could use a bit of nudge technologically, maybe not to the point of repeating rifles, fully-fledged steam locomotives and such to avoid bleeding into MotRD territory, but a few little upgrades here and there would do it no harm.

Is there a place that folks who aren't contributing to the Gaz can suggest things they'd like to see addressed or resolved? For example (and this is really trivial, it's just a "pet peeve" that's been nagging me), how can a domain that can't even feed all its human inhabitants, anymore, still continue to support horses to draw its vehicles? I think it'd be interesting -- or even cute
-- if this were resolved by replacing the "horses" with either horse-shaped constructs or temporarily-conjured creations. Sort of a China Meiville/Simon Green's "Nightside" thing.

We're going to be writing up a synopsis a la Souragne Gazetteer thread that will say what has and hasn't been covered, and suggest that this thread be used for ideas like this one. That way people can easily see what's done and needed without having to flick through this interesting but long thread.
Hell, now that I have golems on the brain, you're right- maybe they made horse-shaped ones to pull 'em. Iron golems to make iron horses?

Who knows, Paridon has to do something with its dead humans, especially when they are the product of doppleganger cover upsIs there a place that folks who aren't contributing to the Gaz can suggest things they'd like to see addressed or resolved? Of course, horses in Paridon are an obvious sign of the wealthy, who might have the resources still to keep them.

I don't see keeping horses as being necessarily unrealistic, even with the food shortage, but I do however imagine horse-theft (for purposes of nourishment) to be a serious problem in Paridon.
Cabbage, Llana, I'm thinking a cool idea could be to have Paridon appoint a "horse guard" to the wealthy quarters (financed by additional taxes naturally). In fact having a "resource police" protecting the food stores and rounding up looters might be a definite asset.
you think?

Some of the horseless tranportation problems of the underclass could be taken care of by the implamentaion of human pulled rickshaws. For a few coins you can get two straping young men to carry you across town at speeds not that much slower then a horse (as you can't realy get a horse up to full galop down main street).
Now of course a few people have dissapeared after getting into one and driving off but the pullers swear they droped those people off at thier destination...

If it's food the horses are sought for, I can see needy commoners booby-trapping the cobblestone streets, to trap passing animals' hooves, too. If true clerics (as opposed to monks) are rare in Paridon's faith, or morally opposed (given their philosophy) to squandering Cure-spells on animals, then a horse with a busted leg will have to be shot. Dibs on the carcass for the commoners, if that happens....Samael Hands of Stone wrote:I don't see keeping horses as being necessarily unrealistic, even with the food shortage, but I do however imagine horse-theft (for purposes of nourishment) to be a serious problem in Paridon.
You might also see politically-motivated attacks on horses, as crusaders on behalf of the commoners would no doubt target the animals for taking tons of good grain out of hungry humans' mouths, every year. Luxuries of other kinds that redirect food from the needy (like brewing) would also be targeted.

Actually, depending on the water quality of Paridon, beer might be seen as one of the few safe beverages to drink. Heaven knows you don't want to check the sewer lines any more often than you have to.Rotipher wrote: Luxuries of other kinds that redirect food from the needy (like brewing) would also be targeted.

We've already shard some thoughts about the main river in Paridon being polluted behind repair. Gin would probably be the drink of choice for the lower class. Naturally, alcholism and family abuse should be big problems. I plan to rent 'from hell' this weekend for some inspirement.Actually, depending on the water quality of Paridon, beer might be seen as one of the few safe beverages to drink. I like the ideas about the lower class members revolting against the horses. I was just thinking about luddites when I read this. Paridon definately needs some sort of underground resistance society.
Horses would have to be very well guarded. Paridon has recently increased secuirity of the city in the wake of the recent Bloody Jack murders. Perhaps it was for other reasons as well.

As much as I enjoyed the Shining Bay variant, I would prefer it if you did *not* present it that way in the Zherisia Gaz. You could always offer up a sidebar about it as a "dread possibility" though.
As for food, it was my understanding that the shortage of food was for the brief period after the Grand Conjunction where the domain collapsed to only be the city of Paridon...the maps in the 3.0 campaign setting show the countryside around Paridon has returned somehow.

Yes, the map doesn't match the text and is obvilouslly wrong ( the text says Nodnal-River, but the map says Rhastik. The text also says, theres no agraable land beyond city proper.Bluebomber4evr wrote:

Unless there's some change of face somewhere, we will probably not be having farm land near by.
The canon material on Zherisia has always been sketchy at best. For instance, there is mention of a mistway from Paridon to Darkon...fine. However, this mistway is described as being an escape route for Bloody Jack, and speaks about him as if he was one person
. Even more so, why would a doppleganger ever need to escape a city with so many people? Let alone one with his clan embedded in it.
