The Maze of Purgatory

Ok the first idea I had was not well recieved, so this is my new one.


The maze of purgatory is a the dread planes response to the outerplanes.

It exists as a infinite plane contained within a finite space.

It exists beneath the soil of ravenloft and the other domains, and has no dark lord guarding it.


Though some also say it is the centre of the dread elemental planes, and some say it is a seperate plane of its own. Its origons are a mystery though one assumes that the Darkpowers wanted to create a miniture version of the great wheel in the hope they may understand it more. Though it never succeeded and mearly became a cruel joke. A false mockery of the afterlife souls would go to if they where never trapped in the dread planes. The dark powers sare said to place those who irritate them into the maze, beings who become troublesome, and one they mearly want to mentally destroy.

The maze of pugatory is my idea of a mega dungeon, hugley complex and nearly impossible to complete. The idea is that this could serve a release for pkayers itching to use epic chars in ravenloft.

There are 16 main sections of the maze each repersenting an outer plane.

Though these are perverted and also twisted into a maze.

Within the centre is the planes response to sigil, and is said to have a mysterious being inside, installed by the darkpowers as a part of the workings.

A being caught in a cage, surround by infinite spinnings bladed rings, covered with ancient sigils.

His body no longer man but machine and magic, a rotting skeletton plugged into the magic powered mechanations of the maze.

Because of his position in the maze and what he is people assume that he is a true neutral demilich.

Though his mortal body maybe no more, a version of him is supposed to be seen floating throughout the maze.

His servants (I need a dread version of the ladys servants maybe) attend top his every will and carry out all the jobs he requires.

I am thinking of using my trainmaster for this.

The idea of the lord of trains, is a nice mockery of the lady of pain lol


The maze is also going to have a silent hill esque mechanism. A change in reality will pccur every so often, which twists it into a new form.

The basic one is that the maze is filled with smoke and mists.

One is filled with light.

and the other, well is basically hellish =P


Enemies in the maze will vary, though dread elementals will be common, and possibly some dragons caught by the dark powers to act as guardians for each of the 9 alignment areas.

I could be very evil and have each of these as demidragoliches.

Which is possible as archliches (supposedly good liches) can become demiliches. So a demiarchdragolich......though lond winded is possible.

I dont know how people will like this idea, but meh.

Actually it could be interesting. However, you haven't given a lot of detail. Also, it would be hard to implement in Ravenloft since it seems to be tied to the more surreal, freakish horror (ala Hellraiser) than the traditional gothic horror of Ravenloft. Just my 2 cp.
