One or more Bag of Holding IV can host lot of corpses you can then carry confortably.
Re: How can a Necromancer transport dozens of corpses?
That's something I hadn't considered, but don't things kept in a bad of holding have to be narrow enough to pass through the mouth of the bag in the first place?Mistmaster wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:43 pm One or more Bag of Holding IV can host lot of corpses you can then carry confortably.

Maybe it's a wide-mouthed bag. Or... a body bag of holding.Solan wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:48 pmThat's something I hadn't considered, but don't things kept in a bad of holding have to be narrow enough to pass through the mouth of the bag in the first place?Mistmaster wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:43 pm One or more Bag of Holding IV can host lot of corpses you can then carry confortably.

The majority of Dark Delvers are found in the mountainous domains, such as Barovia, Dorvinia, Markovia, and Tepest. However, Nova Vaasa, with its easy access to all these domains, as well as Arak and Bluetspur, is home to many Dark Delvers.
The abyss can meet anywhere. However, they prefer the rocky, cave-riddled terrain provided by mountain ranges. Their most notable meeting place is a hidden cavern, called the Abyss of the Hated Mother, on the slopes of Mt. Nirka in the domain of Darkon. The caverns and tunnels are kept dimly lit. Most of the members have excellent night and low-light vision.

Τhing to note when compiling the Sea of Sorrows Gazetteer, Markovia had some Dark Delvers in the past so there must be a complex of caves in the Markovian mountains.

A portable hole, which is 6 feet wide at the mouth and 10 feet deep, would be good for this as well.Solan wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:48 pmThat's something I hadn't considered, but don't things kept in a bad of holding have to be narrow enough to pass through the mouth of the bag in the first place?Mistmaster wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 5:43 pm One or more Bag of Holding IV can host lot of corpses you can then carry confortably.
I once had a player make a dread necromancer PC to run through the Tomb of Horrors, and he carried his pile of minions around in an enveloping pit (a portable hole that is 10 feet wide and 50 feet deep), which is a relic from the Magic Item Compendium. He was the most valuable member of the party in that adventure (that is, until he turned on the other PCs right at the end while they were fighting Acererak).

Traitor (although if heroes accept a Necromancer into their party, they kind of deserve what they get)! How did the other players take this betrayal? How did Acererak? Who came out on top in the end?

Re: How can a Necromancer transport dozens of corpses?
I don't think the other players took it too hard, or were particularly surprised. I think only one made it out alive, barely escaping ahead of the necromancer's servants. It would have been over a lot earlier if they hadn't had the necromancer's undead fodder going in ahead of them. Thanks to him (and an Omega-13-like magical safety net I gave them), they all survived to have their souls sucked out by the demilich.
The necromancer went through a lot of the tomb rebuking and collecting the undead inside, so when the demons came to reset everything, they bound him as a new resident. I suppose one might consider that to be Acererak's "thank you."

Re: How can a Necromancer transport dozens of corpses?
A necromancer likely has a spell for that. Here is one I brewed up.
Dehydrate Corpse
2nd-level necromancy
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: One dead body per caster level
Duration: 1 day per caster level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
You cause all the moisture to rapidly leave the target dead bodies, reducing them to a desiccated, leather-like state. Each body loses 95% of its original weight and becomes extremely pliable, allowing it to be folded and easily carried.
The spell affects one dead body per caster level, each of Large size or smaller. You must touch each body you wish to affect. Dehydrated bodies can be returned to their original state by dismissing the spell or by applying water to them.
This spell does not prevent decay, but it does slow the process significantly due to the lack of moisture. It only affects dead bodies and has no effect on living creatures, undead, or constructs.
Material Component: A pinch of salt

Great spell, reminds me of Three body problem.
There is a need for the reverse spell! Rehydrate bodies.

I lifted it from Three Body Problem.
