It's so hard to pick a top three, especially since I like such disparate genres.

Number one, though, it easy:

WHile we're at it, I know I'll get lynched for that, but of all the bands mentionned, I think Nightwish are by far the worst in my humble opinion. The mix of a opera singer with heavy metal guitar player just doesn't fit for me. I must admit the keyboards are amazing and the piano player should be the singer (only song I could stand was The Carpenter).

Now give me a second to cast all defensive spells I know, now go you can lynch me.

OK, I could correct my typo for Blind Guardian. But Bling Guardian is just too funny to edit away.

Add to that the odd following list: U2-age, punk-age, lots of alternative-age, 60's psychedelic and amphetamine derived stuff, John Zorn-age, Jazz of the 50's, stuff in French, some lounge, very few 70's stuff, Tom Waits-Elleni mandell type, timeless pop like Kate Bush, and many current stuff like Amy winehouse, Franz F, Joseph arthur, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Shivaree, Arcade Fire, etc.

That's a short summary

Edit: forgot Dead Can Dance-type stuff and celtic music.

I haven't heard of this, (but I sure will look for it). But if you like experimental instruments, be sure to check out the 2 blue man group albums. It's amazing what they do with PVC pipes.

Me neither can pick up only three songs. So my list is:

Almost all the songs of Bryan Adams, almost all the disco (80s) and of course many italian and greek songs.

I basically only listen to rock music and to some pop music. Here's my list:

U2, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Genesis, Mylène Farmer, Roxette, REM, Weezer, Collective Soul, Sam Roberts

There's also a few others I like to listen to on the radio: Queen, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Metallica, BTO, Supertramp, ZZ Top, Guns n'Roses, INXS

I also like classical music, medieval music. I'd love to listen to some celtic music eventually. I'll also be checking out Enya and Era.

As a starter, Putumayo's Celtic woman CD is great, and all the CDs from the Chieftains are excellent.

(and while not celtic music, a great band from Dublin is U2, ever heard of these ? )

Brandi, I'd like to thank you for mentioning Oingo Boingo--I really thought my friends and I were the only individuals on the planet who still listened to their music. Most of the time when I mention the group, I get a very puzzled expression thrown back at me, along with an occasional "huh?" tossed in for good measure.

It would also be hard for me to pick three favorite songs, or even three favorite groups, so here are a few in no particular order:

1.) "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo
2.) "Insanity" by Oingo Boingo (which includes a children's choir singing about welcoming madness into their lives... spooky)
3.) "No One Lives Forever" by Oingo Boingo
4.) "Alive" from the Jekyll and Hyde musical
5.) "Good and Evil" from the Jekyll and Hyde musical
6.) "I Want It All" by Queen
7.) "Ogre Battle" by Queen
8.) "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen
9.) "Gimme the Prize (Kurgan's Theme)" by Queen
10.) "Of Wolf and Man" by Metallica
11.) "Unforgiven" and "Unforgiven II" by Metallica
12.) "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera
13.) "Look Down" from Les Miserables

Of course, being from the Southern U.S. I like a lot of country music as well--it doesn't lend itself to Ravenloft of course (most of it, anyway), but I still like it, all the same. Also a big fan of pretty much anything by Mozart and Beethoven (and to a much lesser extent, Bach, Wagner, and Tchaikovsky).

Three CDs, eh? Not what you'd call an easy choice. Anyway, in no particular order:

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath is easily my favourite band, which makes having to choose only one of their CDs remarkably difficult, but I ended up picking this one above Vol IV, mainly because I listened to Sabbath most recently.

How The West Was Won - Okay, so it's three CDs. This is Led Zeppelin at its best, including such wonderful songs as Black Dog, Over the Hills and Far Away, and, of course, Stairway to Heaven. Just an awesome album.

Dark Side of the Moon - It had to come, didn't it? Pink Floyd's best ever, in my humble opinion. It's one of those albums you can drown in, forgetting everything but the music. Possibly the best album ever.
