I think alhoon's got it as far as a zombie outbreak scenario. It doesn't matter how many fireballs the mage has, or how many mass damage spells. If they keep coming, you can't stop them all.

I would try to avoid this scenario with 7th or higher level parties, because in that situation, mages can start dim-door'ing out of the situation, or flying away to safety and taking alot of people with them.

I ran just such a scenario for my Masque d20 group and it was alot of fun. Basically, they discovered that they were in an entire town of undead. I used toned-down ghouls as my villagers and had them come pouring in. Basically, I made only the bite of the ghoul paralytic, because if I had that many ghouls with that many saves being thrown in a round, I knew that the party would be slaughtered.

The party was gunning them down for a while, but as the numbers kept on coming, it got more and more desperate. A zombie hits you one time, no big deal. But when they keep coming, you get nickel and dime'd to death.

People started to get really worried when the zombies started burrowing up from underneath and spiderclimbing across the ceiling towards them.

The main thing I would look for in creating a zombie outbreak scenario is: plot. What is the reason for your outbreak? What will the PC goal be? To stop it? Survive? Get to a certain location? How will they accomplish these tasks? No one wants to play just a raw shoot-'em up. But a shoot 'em up with a real goal can be fun.

Yep, they have remade The Fog, and from what I have seen of it, it does not impress. It also seems to take place over a period of nights now, instead of just 1 :( There goes the main premise of the origial straight away :(

As for a zombie outbreak mini-campaign, set up each adventure so the heroes have to fulfill certain criteria in each adventure or at least achieve some accomplishment.

Say the outbreak was spreading in their town in the first adventure, set it so that they must escape the town, at night, before dawn, without being caught and slaughtered by the zombies (which will seem all but invincible to them)

In the second, perhaps they need to establish a hideout and base of operations while they lie low, this will be complicated by isolated places being fortified by those that live in them and the heroes being chased off by the inhabitants out of fear that they will attract the attentions of the walking dead. Throw in some invincible zombies and watch the fear spread through the party.

After this and they have their hideout, have them plotting and brainstorming for wht they want to do next, they should be in a relatively large island domain for this, or one that is forming, so the world beyond is cut off to them. Finding a way to stop a zombie is great for this, have them find way to capture a zombie and experiment on it, eventually they will find a way to put one down for good, having them filled the criteria for this adventure.

From there I would let it go pretty much how the players want it, just play it by ear and be very good at improvising ;)
