Why not have him be carrying a small copy of one of the Books of Ezra? It might be the one that established the dead man's branch of the faith (the easy option), or he might have bookmarked certain pages with handwritten notes ... notes, bearing his own arguments disputing those passages' interpretations, in accordance with a different sect's teachings. Good idea. I like it, but decided not to use it yet. Instead I’ll use it later in the campaign. Thanks.
What I did was leave other clues to point the character to the dead man’s home town. Right now they only know he is a follower of Ezra.
As for names of the sects, I just use these which I took from the Anchors of Faith article in the Book of Secrets.
Borca = Anchorites of The Home Faith
Mordent = Anchorites of the Chapel of Pure Hearts
Dementlieu = Anchorites of St. Mere des Larmes
Darkon = Anchorites of the Last Redoubt
I use these as their formal names in role playing, but they are jst too long the use in simple conversations. I think I will start using Nathan’s names, but with a twist. I will use those names for what people outside the sects call them. The members of the sect will still insist on the above names, at least for their own sect.

IMC, there is a chapel to Ezra in Nartok. In fact, MC started in Nartok and the Ezran chapel was where the PC priest of the Morninglord was tortured for proclaiming another faith and being a threat of stealing souls from Ezra's worship. (The player was away for a month and that was my way of keeping the game going. The other players just thought he was discussing religion with the Anchorites). The characters are going to find a murdered follower of Ezra in a town without a chapel to Ezra, Nartok Darkon.
I am trying to determine what sort of clues I can leave for them to identify him. If they know what sect he is from they will have an easier time of it.
