Bennedict Gehrman is an antiquities dealer, specializing in rare books. So consequently on first examination you don't typically think "adventurer". He's thin, has a greying mustache despite being fairly young, and wears wire-rim glasses. Thus his stepping back and letting the rough-looking types sort out their dispute rather than getting involved.

Léon Delamarre is quite a sight. A towering figure of muscles clad in the finely crafted outfit of a nobleman with a robust cane in hand and, of course, a matching hat.

However, Léon is plagued by a rather fiendish facial structure that includes small pointed teeths coming out of the corners of his mouth. Bony structures on his face and hands force him to wear a thin cloth scarf up to his eyes as well as gloves when he doesn’t want to attract unwanted attention. His voice is unsettlingly cavernous. When he chooses to speak up, he does so more intelligibly than most would expect.

Léon reads/speaks high and low mordentish.

Norzak Darkender is a young dwarf, only recently has he arrived in Pont A Museau. Little over four feet tall and hundred and fifty pounds. Clad in a black leather armor and black cloak. A short sward adorns his right hip and a crossbow at his back. Norzak prides himself on his long black beard. His head is as bald as an eagle and his eyes as black as the night.

Rafe';s right. I can do the rolls for you guys from now on, if no one objects. I've got your sheets, after all. Just tell what what you intend on doing, and I'll handle the rest.

Alright, I'm stepping back from the scene to see how it shakes out, and making a spot check to look for a passing gendarme to flag down and break up the fight.

I did all necessary rollls for the first round, past intiative, based on your declared actions. This seems to work very well.

Adam, I sent you a PM.

So, since I'm a bit of a pbp rookie, now we go through and post our responses in the IC thread then what our attempted actions will be in here?

Yes, basically.

You can describe your actions in the IC thread, but list the mechanical stuff here [ ''I rush in shouting my battle cry and attack the nearest bandit'' vs Init 17, To hit bonus +4 , damage from sword 1d8+1, ]

Well, other than the dice rolls anyway.

Yes. Would you prefer to make your own rolls in combat, or do you like having me do it for you, based on your declared actions? Honestly, I can go either way, but I'd like to be consistent.

Fair enough. The first round is over. The second round is on.

Thug #1 is KOed by the Sleep spell.

Thug #2 with the club, is wounded.

Thug # 3 is layed out on the ground, not knocked out but definitely stunned by Leon's punch.

No PCs are hurt.

Round 2:
Norzak is taking aim at club boy. Rafe's up next. If he doesn't get a chance to post before the rest of you declare actions, I think we can reasionably assume Cirdan is still whaling on the club wielder. Leon stunned his guy- what's his next move? Is Bennedict still watching from the alley , or is he getting more directly involved? Is anyone helping the woman?

I recently played in a really fun PBP game [sadly, it fell through- the DM was unable to continue running]. Anyhoo, the DM had this to say about combat in a PBP:

Endless Flight typed-

Combat can take the longest amount of time in a play-by-post game, due to not only dice rolling, but getting all the characters' actions and then conducting a round. In order to speed up play, I've got some suggestions that will help you and me out tremendously.

When we get to a combat, I will try to do two rounds at a time, if possible. I will ask you what your character's primary action will be, what his secondary action will be, and what his tertiary/other action will be. Basically, if your character is unable or can't fulfill his primary action, then I'll move on to the secondary, and so on. A good example of this in play: suppose two characters are trying to club the ogre. Character A has initiative, and clubs the ogre to death. Now, normally Character B would be out of luck, but since the player had three actions listed, the DM just moved to the next action: searching the room for treasure. Another helpful thing would be what your character will do if injured. An example could be: If Bart takes 50%+ HP damage, he'll fall back. Something simple to show that Bart won't dive into further combat headfirst if he's got a few cuts and bruises.

Here's an example of combat actions that was created by our very own Malagate...

Primary Tactic: Missle fire from a distance (sling)
Secondary Tactic: Melee with sword
Other: will attempt Backstab if foes are surprised, will use Stealth skill to sneak up on unaware foes when possible. Will not attempt Hide in Shadows or Move Silently as combat maneuvers.

Seeks safety after any damage (climbs to safety when possible)

We found that this worked out very well indeed. Anyone object to trying it out for the next combat?
