Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
For those who don't follow Chris Perkins/Mike Mearls/Wizards_DnD/Others on Twitter, here's some brief points of interest dealing with things mentioned about Ravenloft 5E (sadly, I'm at work and can't link to the actual tweets at the moment):
1. Strahd rides on a Nightmare. The picture is cool.
2. A Paladin using Find Steed summons a skeletal steed.
3. Chris won't tell us if there's more to the demiplane than Barovia (which makes me hopeful that they might at least hint at a larger demiplane).
4. Curse of Strahd is definitely a sandbox adventure, like Out of the Abyss.
5. Curse of Strahd has a starting point for level 3 characters.
6. Ed Greenwood confirmed there's a person named Strahd in the adventure
But in all seriousness, Ed said "I think we can share one spoiler". That "we" is interesting, though I assume he likely helped with the FR intro.
7. There's a new D&D Podcast discussing the Art of Strahd.

Yeah, about that: here's what ENWorld so far has said.Ender wrote:3. Chris won't tell us if there's more to the demiplane than Barovia (which makes me hopeful that they might at least hint at a larger demiplane).
Sounds like a Force Awakens-style reboot.ENWorld RPG News and Reviews wrote:Minsc and Boo are comedic characters, whereas Ravenloft is not well-known for it's light-hearted jocularity. Comic book writer Jim Zub says that that makes for a great story. "Testing his boisterous idealism against the dreary despair inherent in the Ravenloft setting is a fun way to create both humor and dramatic tension. Add in the rest of our Baldur’s Gate adventuring crew, and a new cleric as well, and it becomes a really fun dynamic to work with."
The comic book features the heroes getting involved in a "nasty caper that involves werewolves, skeletons, vampire servants, and a troublesome relic taken from Ravenloft" before being pulled into the Realm of Terror by the mists. "From there it’s just a misty moment away from being pulled into the Realm of Terror..." Interestingly, this is also a very strong implication that Barovia is, indeed, a demiplane in its own right.

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
Personally, I don't think they mean "Barovia is not part of a larger Demiplane" but rather that "Barovia exists in a demiplane, as opposed to being part of the Forgotten Realms". Or, if they do mean that, I honestly don't see where they'd be getting that implication from. I haven't seen anything yet to really suggest that Barovia is by itself (but anything is possible, of course).

I'd say that Ender is on target. EN World is stretching this a bit. There's nothing in the Comics Alliance interview that hints at the boundaries of the Realm of Terror beyond the confines of the comic's plot.

Just a few minutes ago, I read the following from a DM on the D&D Adventurers League Facebook group (a closed group):Azalin Rex wrote:Two days past since Suits of the Mists was first runned in Winter Fantasy. Is there some reviews in web?...
I hope that helps.Despite the fact that we only ran it on the last day of the show, everyone seemed pretty pumped. Energy was high, and the vast majority of reports that came to me went from "this is a *great* intro adventure" to "zomg ravenloft".

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
DMG said Ravenloft is demiplane but hinted that each domain is a demiplane of its own. You know, how you needed to use planeshift to travel from one domain to the next? That kind of thing comes to mind. They may be "connected" in a way but it may be more mystical than just following a road or a river. Paths that don't follow the expected laws and seem incomprehensible by the human mind; like a road/river with mists blocking vision a few dozen yards from each side that one day may be long and another may be short. One day it may be turn left, the other right. That kind of thing.Ender wrote:Personally, I don't think they mean "Barovia is not part of a larger Demiplane" but rather that "Barovia exists in a demiplane, as opposed to being part of the Forgotten Realms". The way I think it'll be is: There will be little info (As in 1-2 lines) about other realms without making clear whether they are parts of the same demiplane, demiplanes of their own connected geographically, demiplanes of their own "Connected" with weird ways or completely isolated demiplanes.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that each domain was "technically" a separate demiplane but you could walk from one to another, sort of a separate but whole situation. If the demiplane as a whole was a blanket , each domain is a separate patch.

In 4e, domains were part of the Shadowfell, locations in that plane that were separate little demiplanesalhoon wrote:Actually, that was the 3rd edition view...Jester of the FoS wrote:That was the 4e view.Drinnik Shoehorn wrote:I could have sworn I read somewhere that each domain was "technically" a separate demiplane but you could walk from one to another, sort of a separate but whole situation. Yes. You couldn't walk from one demiplane to another.Jester of the FoS wrote: In 4e, domains were part of the Shadowfell, locations in that plane that were separate little demiplanes
In 3.5 (and perhaps 2e) each domain was mechanically considered a demiplane but you could walk from one to another. 5e made the transition to the (IMO more appropriate) new shadowfel plane. Kinda making Lord of the Necropolis plot of the Dark Powers more focused.

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
Chris Perkins posted a new Curse of Strahd map on the D&D Tumblr page: "The Blue Water Inn".
Could this be the same Blue Water Inn in Vallaki that we know from 'Roots of Evil' and GAZ 1?
