Karim can take any watch you want. But I think is better if a spellcaster is with a fighter.

Franz will take a watch with Benn or Dorgio.

Based on what you guys have said, let's go with this:

  • Franz and Benn
    Wat
    Jon
    Galandel
    Karim and Dorgio
This will give Benn an uninterrupted 8 hours' rest. It gets Dorgio up in time for dawn prayers to regain spells. The elf is on watch in the deep pre-dawn darkness. Note that the human PCs probably do not know that elves meditate rather than sleep in the usual fashion.

Adam, do you want to do any role playing between Benn and Franz?

Eh, let's get the plot moving forward. Benn will probably be busy working on his own things (writing in his observations journal, starting to scribe some spells, etc.) and not doing a terribly good job of watching anyways.
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

Just waiting to see if the party members are going back to sleep, or searching the woods near the camp.

Tarlyn, Karim is fighter not ranger. He just has survival and knows the place a little better than the others because he has been there before.

Right.

It's not like the PCs are actually thinking in strict game-terminology.
