After thinking about it, imo the idea presented by Lesser Evil is the best for Diamabel. If you put him in a kingdom as our babylonian kingdom (-600 BC) dominated by human sacrifices for demon lords, you can clearly use this idea.
He try to redeem the kingdom, leaded by desilusion or madness or whatever, he goes too far. His day incarnation would be a philosopher scholar, trying to make people do what he think is good using reason and words and his night incarnation could be the same but with power, violance and intimidation.
