Darn it! That's what happens when you don't practice your english very much.

And I guess "Baconica" doesn't fix it, does it?

Maybe "Bakonia"? Sounds the same but doesn't bring breakfast to mind immediately?

WolfKook wrote:Missed the joke. Is there something bad with the domain? I know it would lose its grace, but could you please explain it to me, Raf (Perhaps in spanish, to really get it )?
- Sorry for late reply. You know, as others have explained, Baconia: Land of Bacon. :D

The real spectacular thing is: You're a Spaniard, my friend!?

Maybe try "Balkrania"?

Sounds a little like a Slavic country, which wouldn't be too far off of Ravenloft.

Well, WolfKook, from the names you've given in your domain appear Romantic... perhaps if you don't wish to change the name too much, you could change it to Basconia? Slip in an s, and you've got yourself something that sounds, to me at least, Italian or French. :)

Basconica sounds better to me. Sounds like Gascony and Bastogne combined.

I'm from Colombia, so my native tongue is spanish, yeap.

I was trying to give it a name based on Bacchus or Bacchanal (Baco/Bacanal in spanish). The idea would be to end up with a name that sounds either french or dutch.

Any suggestions?

WolfKook wrote: I already have an idea for a Darklord: A mesh between the Marquis of Sade, the characters Merteuil and Valmont from Les Dangereuses Liasons (Kathryn and Sebastian from the movie Cruel Intentions), and Wheeler from Wild Orchid: Basically a man with a magnetic personality and an enormous fortune who uses both to manipulate and corrupt others, discarding them when they are not amusing to him anymore.

So, any suggestions?
I don't know if you've ever read The Picture of Dorian Gray, but your description fits the title character of that book almost to a T.

Dorian Gray starts out as a fairly innocent youth, whom the artist painting him has become infatuated with, perhaps even fallen in love with. Imagine how scandalous even the mere suggestion of a homosexual attraction was when Oscar Wilde wrote the book! It was absolutely brazen. (Homosexuality was considered an immoral debauchery even for nobles in Victorian times, so it foreshadows far worse to come in Dorian Gray's future.) Before the artist can complete the painting he introduces a noble to Dorian, who rationalizes the indulgence of pleasure and vice to Dorian in coversation. Dorian, having been brought up in a moral atmosphere, is trying ot think of how to refute the nobleman but isn't able to come up with a good counter-argument. And so it begins.

The nobleman (no names so as to avoid confusion) guides Dorian into a life of vice similar to the author of My Secret Life, though Oscar Wilde is far less explicit, of course. No matter what he does it never shows on his beautiful face, but instead shows on the face of the painting. Yet, deep down, the guilt of his upbringing seems to plague him. He shows the painting, with its corrupted appearance, to the artist who painted it and then kills him -- somehow, it has become harder to live with, this thing, and so he slays the artist who created this magic in a sort of twisted revenge.

Years later, Dorian has explored debauchery and vice in myriad forms and has acquired quite a reputation. People apparently mean nothing to him, as he manipulates them, toys with them and then discards them. He has become so practiced that it is amazingly easy for him. Nonetheless, others continue to fall prey to him simply because they can't believe all these terrible rumors when the look into his innocent face... a face that looks gloriously young, younger than it should, really. But the deep-seated guilt is eating away at him deep inside. He can rationalize his actions however cleverly he can, but his upbringing taught him better. Eventually he destroys the painting, which basically represents his guilt at this point, as it shows on the face on the paitning and the blood on its hands what he has done. This releases his soul and he dies immediately. When his body is found soon after by his servants, they don't even recognize this older man whose face is riddled with the lines caused by a life of indulgence.

This was the pre-curse Stezen d'Polarno IMC. After that it lined up nicely with the canon Stezen. I considered changing that but hadn't come up with anything yet. It could be a nice idea to have the darklord come from the peasant stock who was somehow promoted to nobility, perhaps by a noble relative.

I was also thinking about expanding Ghastria and was toying with about the suggestions here on the board. But I think the domain you've described in this thread would be an excellent replacement for Ghastria. It would be THE destination for trade in food stuffs in teh Sea of Sorrows, especially spices, and it could still be an artists colony as other have outlined in the Domain of the Month: Ghastria thread.

As an aside, if the peasant class has a puritanical streak as you set out, they could see the bland food as a blessing. Heaven aids them in resisting temptation! That makes the nobles indulgence even more contemptible, as God (or whatever) has actually intervened to help them live more moral lives. (Though I don't recall the canon rules ever saying anything about meat, only what was grown on the island.)

Agreed. That definitely sounds more like a French province.
