Well, if he does die, I have some suggestions for a replacement PC-


A gendarme (for immediate play value- he can go on the raid. Of course, we have no idea if there will be a joint raid, especially now!)

A local informant/spy. He'd the sort of guy you'd hire to track somebody down, investigate rumors, case a joint, etc. Probably a rogue with knowledge local and gather info, but a bard would work, too. So would urban ranger, the UA variant (now in the SRD). The party may come across him on their own or be introduced to him by an NPC. Being as they are investigating crimes, it makes perfect sense they'd meet somebody like this.

Extra muscle hired by Denys to protect Evie/aid the PCs. A local warrior, most likely- although he could possibly be Falkovnian, given Denys' contacts. A bog standard fighter would be good.

For now:

You are in a large parlor, with some furniture around the sides of the room. There is no fight in the parlor. Jon, Benn, and Dorgio are in this room with you. Charlotte is sleeping/KOed on the couch.
The gendarme officer is slumped against the parlor wall, badly hurt and maybe even mortally wounded.

At one end of the parlor is a short open hall/foyer. The front door of the house is over that way. The foyer is crowded now. Galandel lies on the floor, being kicked and trampled by the gendarmes. They are not stabbing him now. His wolf is also in the foyer, attacking the gendarmes and being attacked by them (w/ swords) in turn.

Rafe- roll initiative and a non lethal attack with the usual -4 to hit, please. Roll damage in case you hit. Or do you prefer that I should roll (I cannot remember if you like it that way).
