Dominica alters her course to be out of the way of the warhorse and heads for her mule. In all the excitement she didn't even
remember if "Henry" was still in one piece. Knowing she had lost some of her items from the opened chest, she sighs. They were
replaceable. Her face wasn't, and the scar it would leave was, well, unforgivable to say the least.

When the warhorse walks up to him, Roald pats it on the jaw and feeds it an apple before he starts to repair the saddle girth.

"I know you are cross with me, Lady Dominca, but I fully intend to hire a proper healer to tend to you in Diemerel. With luck, your wounds won't have time to scar. And once we get there, I would be willing to consider giving you your armor. Perhaps even your weapons, if you behave. But we must make haste. This truce will not hold for much longer and I want us to be indoors before nightfall."

WATCH HOUSE

Much as Renn hates to admit it, he could use the rest. "You're right, sergeant," he admits reluctantly, and finds a convenient spot in the watchouse to settle in for what passes for a nap. "Wake me before the killing starts."

"'I sure will, Commander."

Sergeant Gilly bring a wool blanket from the corner and drapes it over Renn as the young man
stretches out on a cot.

The big guy points behind Filbert, where enemy soldiers and pirates roam Riverside.

He jerks a thumb at his back, indicating Haes-within-the-walls.

"This is Duke Devlin's city."

Someone else puts in-

''Gonna stay that way!"

The men crowd round Filbert, poking him with their weapons.

The big, hairy leader leans over Filbert.
"Now tell me who you are , little man. Be you friend or foe to my duke?"
Once Filbert figures out that these men are actually defenders of Haes says:

"You really don't recognize me? I didn't think that there were more halflings around. Anyway I'm Filbert the Funny, your Duke's jester. Take me to him and he will confirm everything and if he is too busy fighting just take me to the palace, everyone there knows me."

CORMAC AND GUNNAR
Adam wrote:"Righ', well, I suppose ye can use this till we fin' yeh sommat better," Cormac says, pulling his handaxe out and offering it to Dietric.

Once the man is armed, he will saddle up and head out with Gunnar towards the town.

Gunnar, Cormac and Dietric ride to Benton...

In town, they find a spear for Dietric at a fair price. No armor for sale. Benton looks like a typical farm town, with a quaint little market. The men hear vague rumors of recent pirate raids against the province of Haes, but nothing specific. No word on bandit activity around here, but a wool trader stopping by the market tells them that he's heard complaints from the shepherds further north.
"Sheep rustling gobbers, they say."

One of the men in the back says-

"I've seen him drinking at the Kraken's Arms. That's the duke's fool, yeah."

Filbert is escorted through the lines by a couple of brawny men.

Tell Sir Roald that is amenable to me. I promise to behave myself. I do not relish the thought of another wound like this one and I do need ot be able to protect myself if this occurs once more, which I fear it shall. ANother blade is always good to have under these circumstances."
Roald listens to Reese relay Dominca's message and chuckles. "Then let us be off!"

He removes the damaged saddle from his warhorse and gives it to Reese to stow on his horse. He then mounts his horse bareback to ride the rest of the way to Diemerel.

She will follow Reese and Roald on Henry.

ICE CELLAR BENEATH CAER HAES

The Castellan enters the frigid, gloomy vault below the beer cellars. He holds a burning taper in his right hand, tugging his fur mantle close with his right. The heavy door, fringed with oiled leather, swings shut behind him.
The old knight kneels beside the closed pine coffin that lays sandwiched between slabs of straw-covered ice.

“My gracious lord, I am sorry that your funeral rites have been delayed. I promise that you will have a proper burial in your family crypt below the cathedral of Haelyn. But Carilon Alam has crossed the river.”

Sir Rory bows his gray head.

“I have done what I thought necessary to ensure that your line continues. “

He reaches inside his fur coat and takes out a twist of black hair tied in old lace the color of a spider web, turning the tress over and over in his hand.

A knock at the door and a muffled voice;''It's time, Lord Castellan.''
